Amazing the difference in answers to basically the same question. One involving Jordan Burroughs picking Mark Hall as his training partner in the Worlds, and one involving Dan Dennis picking Spencer.
Q: What do you make of Jordan Burroughs picking high school wrestler Mark Hall as his training partner for the World Championships? Is this a ploy to help recruit Hall to Nebraska?
-- Mike C.
Foley: Mark Hall has a kinda-sorta stance and style that resembles Aniuar Geduev, which could be helping Burroughs prepare. He's another body for James Green, too. Finally I think he tests Burroughs' speed, which is something the champ would like to keep sharp.
Burroughs doesn't strike me as the type of guy to use his Olympic qualifying year to help him land a recruit. Doesn't compute.
Foley made this to be an extremely well thought out decision, based on giving jb the best chance to win the championship. He even went so far as to compare Halls style to the style to one of Burroughs top competitors (totally made up of course their styles are not even close )
then look at his answer to the Spencer question
Q: I see Daniel Dennis is bringing Spencer Lee as a training partner to Rio. Do you see Lee challenging for a spot on a senior level team during the upcoming quad?
-- Mike C.
Foley: Certainly challenging. He's an incredible talent who is well-coached at the high school level and next year will be moving to a college program that creates Olympians. I'm suspect about Dennis bringing Lee as his training partner, but that's his preference and he's earned the right to bring anyone he likes. The coaches must approve so who am I to judge?
So he is " suspect" about Dennis' choice but Burroughs' was so well thought out and smart. Iowa meatheads deserves suspicion but, no possibility that Jordan could have been using it as a recruiting tool (he definitely was btw)
