The thread title is not my opinion; it's a quote from the linked article.

Some additional excerpts:

“This is a bad precedent that could be abused by later Presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis wrote of Biden on the social media platform X.

Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., said on X: “This wasn’t a politically motivated prosecution. Hunter committed felonies and was convicted by a jury of his peers.”

The full story from the Associated Press:

Personally, I do not like this one bit. That said, it is the least surprising thing to happen. I'm trying to decide which I dislike more... this pardon or Trumpers bitching about this when he pardoned his cronies on his way out a few short years ago. Let's face it... this is politics and it sucks.

Said numerous times that Joe would pardon Hunter,.. Trump's election win just made it more likely...
Had Trump lost I don’t know that I agree that he would have.

I dislike that he did this, but I get why - I don’t doubt Trump would have sent his DoJ after him, not to mention additional hearings in congress. He acted as a father here, not POTUS.

As I stated elsewhere, I don't have much of a problem with the pardon -- way too many low level schmucks get caught up as detritus in these political investigations. I do have a bit of pause as to its breadth though. Very Nixonian, except over an even broader time period.

Either way, if as Joe says the R's really do "have it out for him", there's very simple pathways to make that happen.
Pathway A
1. Call congressional oversight hearing.
2. Set perjury trap (with the alternative being very embarrassing information for people who haven't been indicated).
3. Profit!

Pathway B
1. Just have lackey R state AG who is ambitious in someplace Hunter once stayed at a holiday in bring some sort of state charges that are not subject to the pardon.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that though.

Harris lost and couldn't save Hunter's butt.

Just more lies.

this disingenuous search for hypocrisy is exhausting

every president pardons people...they all have "questionable" pardons or pardons that are beneficial to themselves

I go to apnews.com every day and read their stories. This story is at the top of the web page; so, you are simply wrong; it didn't take a search to see what the huge topic of the day is.

And Biden should not be constantly saying "no one is above the law" when he clearly shows he and his family are.

i know

this is the thing to be mad about today until we find a new thing to be mad about

thanks so much for copy and pasting something from ap...we really needed a third thread on the topic

This is fair. The better option would have been to decline comment on Hunter all along and then pardon the guy without a statement. Instead the GOP has years of him spouting off about staying out of it, saying he wouldn't issue a pardon, and then he issues a pardon and puts out that self-serving statement with it. It's just one more reminder of why millions of people detest politicians in this country.

The problem is that many of the loudest complaints are coming from Trump supporters, which is laughable. Or like the one I saw today of Meghan McCain calling Hunter Biden a "nepo baby." The lack of self awareness is amazing.

i don't really like any of the presidential pardons...but my anger level for this one is about the same as all the other ones, whether the president is someone i voted for or not...and that's all i'm really asking from anyone

It was wrong and it was hypocritical.

That doesn’t change the fact that Donald Trump is 100x worse on the issue. MAGA in general think rules and standards only apply to the other guys.

I am one of those millions who can't stand either side and wish we had better options. Instead, we get stuck with one hypocritical side or the other.

And yes, I am fully aware that Trump is going to be pardoning tons of people over the next 4 years.

It's complete BS.

It's fair to say that Hunter was "treated differently" for reasons that should be irrelevant to those who are prosecuting crimes. His pardon was somewhat defensible if that's your position. But unless this is the beginning of a clemency spree by Joe, it's also an incredibly selfish move from a guy who breathlessly talks about nobody being above the law. I assume they were hoping Kamala would win and issue the pardon, but this is now the alternative. It'd be a bit more palatable if Hunter had served any sort of punishment prior to the pardon.

Again: This is the stuff that causes millions of people to lose faith in institutions and hate politicians.

Biden just saved Merican taxpayers the expense of housing Hunter Biden.

Thanks, Joe.

5 years of Trump being allowed to be above the law and now you all are upset. This is why it was important to hold Trump accountable. But thanks to the corrupt Supreme Court, Biden can do this. You should all be happy this is all he decided to do.

Have you checked Obama's numbers?
You understand Trump is a convicted felon, right?

He pardoned just about everyone on his transition team last time around. He pardoned war crimes at the behest of his Sec Def appointee. He’s promised to pardon the January 6th rioters and the fake electors.

He’s been found liable of defamation, sexual assault, and agreed to a finding against him in a fraud suit. His attorneys have been disbarred for pushing his conspiracy theories.

He refused to divest from his businesses and has significant conflicts of interest all over the globe. He kept classified documents after leaving office. And so on ad infinitum.

MAGA has tunnel vision.

Laws are for fools.

Garland was a really bad AG.

You're a Trump voter. You wouldn't know a lie if it kicked you in your nuts.
You are in for a long 4 years.

Do you REALLY think all those investigations and dollars nobody can account for are actually clean or did the end justify the means as long as the orange man went to jail?
