This is yet another example, in the endless number of them, that Dems and Rs are covered differently. Trump did lots of pardons like this. News barely touched these stories. But Biden does it and the news is all over it.

Also, Hunter admitted his guilt, admitted he harmed people, and was ready to face punishment. He had been a target rightly of the justice system, and also the victim of a vicious smear campaign whose sole purpose was to get at his father's political prospects.
One reason I can stomach the pardon is the Hunter Biden era was not going to pass. There was reporting that Donald Trump was going to do his standard "Will I, or won't I", game about pardoning Hunter, simply out of the cruelty that dominates his reptilian brain. There were also mentions that Trump wanted Joe to grovel publicly for a pardon.
Donald was not going to give up his shiny Hunter ornament after Christmas. He was going to keep playing with it.

Garland screwed the pooch by waiting way too long to prosecute Trump for Jan 6th. This case should have gone to trial well over a year ago. The Jan 6 Select Committee gave DOJ practically all the evidence they needed to prosecute and convict.

The fact that Joe pardoned Hunter for anything he did over a course of a decade makes this pardon a little different. If he had stuck to just pardoning for the convictions it would have been better IMO.

pardoning 1 person, who has become the whipping boy of an entire party, is completely understandable and not an abuse of power. It's one he literally has.
Trump pardoning a large group of people, that were actually prodded on by trump himself; would fit the definition of abuse of power.
Stacking a supreme court with do as I say, not as I do and then have them give you powers no one ever thought would happen. That's abuse of power.
