Caught some of both last night and two games I thought should favor Iowa seem more in doubt. DePaul played U of Chicago so hard to take too much away given the competition. DePaul has some serious length + Charlie Moore at his 4th or 5th stop. Cincy looked pretty solid against OSU and has a couple returners from last year + some new talent. Lots of big athletic dudes. Would have been nice to land Carton.

Kenpom has Iowa as a decent home favorite (8pts, 76%). The have the Cincy game as a toss up, Cincy favored by 1, Iowa at 45%. I'd guess Iowa should win the DePaul game and it will be close until fairly late, but Iowa pulls away a bit in the last few minutes. The Cincy game will be tough and either a close win or loss.

They win both, they would both be good wins. Neither would be a bad loss, though DePaul would be looked at a bit harder.

Keep in mind, KenPom has DePaul 9th in the Big East, but they have the Big East as the #2 conference just behind the B12 and just ahead of the B1G.

Will be interesting to see what they can do against the first team they play with a pulse on Monday. DePaul are not world beaters by any means; they're picked last in the coaches big east preseason poll that I saw. But, they look like they at least have some D1 capable talent.

Just for comparison/context, KP has DePaul just ahead of MN.

I'm no expert but having watched Depaul.....that will be a challenging game. IF, big IF, we handle them then I will start to feel pretty good about where this season might be heading. I still have a hard time getting a read after watching the exhibition game.

I agree that DePaul can at least be informative as they have some talent. It just has to be put in the context of them as being a likely low level performer from one of the power basketball conferences.

Might take a few weeks to really watch the team gel. A lot of new pieces, like a new class coming through.

The 5 game stretch with Syracuse, Minnesota, ISU, Michigan and Cincy could make or break the season. 3-2 or 2-3 would be manageable. 1-4 or 0-5 would really be tough to recover from. Iowa could play decent ball and still lose all 5 games.

It would be tough to recover from anything less than 2 wins out of that bunch of teams. None of them are terrible, but none are highly regarded either. Not a good sign early if they can't get it done against probable bubble competition.
