Depth chart…

I don't think I believe all of that. They sent him out there for TWO more series after the late hit/wounded duck thing and he still had his helmet on during the last series of the half, which was Sully's THIRD series. If they were at all concerned about concussion they first would have evaluated him after the hit and then if he had one they would have taken his helmet and more than likely sent him to the locker room because he would have been sensitive to light. Or the opposite could be true that he really did get a concussion on that hit and then the Iowa medical staff grossly neglected their starting QB's health. Take your pick.

No, I think he threw a pick-six and KF saw enough and pulled him. Plain and simple. KF is just trying to handle it with some class and dignity, as well as keep everyone engaged in case they need to put him back in. We have seen this script a million times before in college and the pros; backup QB comes in and plays well after the starter is pulled, but then the next week as the starter when teams gameplan for him they struggle badly. So we should all temper our enthusiasm a bit and see how it plays out.
Ok, well he did take one hell of a hit, and came out of the locker room after half without a helmet. I don't really care either way, but he won't be seeing the field in meaningful time again for the hawks barring some absolutely catastrophic outcome.

I am guessing Vander Zee, Ostrenga & Stephens haven't left the team, either. :)

Of the 5 injured:

Not Listed on the Depth Chart:
Cade McNamara
Reece Vander Zee
Beau Stephens
Addison Ostrenga

Listed on the Depth Chart:
Luke Lachey

Stephens sure hasn’t been very durable during his tenure.

100% he never threw another ball in any warm ups during the rest of the game. Was just 1, 11 and 19 doing warm ups.

I agree in that if Sully plays well this is his team from now on. However, if he gets hurt and they game is close Cade comes back in as the "emergency" backup. I think Marco plays if Sully goes down when we are up big or stinks up the place and we are getting blown out.

Does it matter? Of course it does. Pretty sure Cade's better than Lainez.
It really doesn't. Sullivan is a much better option today, so he needs to start. I have seen Cade play and he's been one of the worst QB's in P4 all year. Lainez might be worse or he might be better, but we already know that Cade is bad. I'm under no illusions regarding the Iowa QB room. It is weak, and it needs to improve.

I don't really care why as long as Cade isn't playing. I hope he's not hurt for the sake of his own health.

Classic Kirk? Inferring he's done this often? Give me some examples of Kirk waiting until the team goals are out of reach before changing quarterbacks.
2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024. Quarterback changes should have been addressed every season and weren’t. For example, in 2022 we couldn’t throw, pass protect or have receivers that could get open. So it would have made perfect sense to go with a mobile qb like Labas and just try and run. But we didn’t have an offensive coordinator that had the capabilities to game plan for that.

Looked like to me they did end up taking his helmet.

Come on man, Petras was our best option in 2022.

I still think it's likely that Cade is injured. Could have suffered from a concussion or some kind of head injury. Having him off the depth chart makes sense, can risk playing someone who has that kind of injury.
Why don't they just tell us? What's the big secret?

Concussion sometimes doesn’t present itself immediately. Very possible Cade felt good and didn’t show symptoms right away but did a series or two later.

Anyone in this thread wonder if CMcN did something to his arm on PF late hit, or maybe broke ribs when he was landed on? I haven't gone back to look at that play but don't remember a hit to his head or a head snap when he hit the ground (probably wrong here). But that throw was so bad it makes you wonder about his shoulder/arm.

With respect to team goals, there are just too many holes in the secondary and the WR position to warrant any competition for the elites in the CFP. Even changing the QB to Sullivan, I think that is going to help the running game some more but he has done nothing here or anywhere else to show that he can help develop a downfield passing game. At this point, for the players and talent on the roster, I would like to see them win out and enjoy these two rivalry games at home and go to a manageable bowl game and win it. This season has a lot of parallels to 2008 anyway and this is the best they can hope for.
I’d like to see at least a couple of games where the Iowa passing attack joins the rest of college football.

Start to abandon the 9-12 80 0 TD lines and develop into a 15-20 260 2 TD….which would still be below non military academies but for Iowa would seem like arena football

Iowa doesn’t need to have 300+ passing games every week, but they should show the ability to get there if necessary.

Will need to see if Sully can provide us with something in the air compared to Cade/Hill

His no laces tendency really hurt him on that throw. There’s video out there in slow motion of that play and you can see the ball slip-slide out of his hand before getting hit.

That ball was out of his hand before he got hit.

Iowa won't have a passing game approach 300 yards this year. There aren't any more FCS opponents on the schedule and it's not what they do given the schemes or their strengths.

Honestly as long as Kirk is here I'm not sure we'll ever have another 300 yard game. 200 yards is a huge number for us.

Cade was concussed. It was discovered at halftime, which is why he came out of the locker room sans helmet. Apparently didn't start exhibiting symptoms until they got to the locker room. Which is why he's not listed on the depth chart. I, for one, hope he can recover quickly and be available for Wisconsin. Not as the starter, but as someone we can turn to if Sully gets hurt. No offense to Marco, but we're screwed if he's the backup that has to come in for an injured Sully.

This is true....except that the 2009 team returned a load of emerging talent from the '08 team that finished hot, while Iowa's '25 team looks to be taking a major step back based on returning talent and schedule, unless KF can pull off a major portal influx (6+ impact players) and have several current players take big steps forward (particularly LB, WR and RB).

I agree in that if Sully plays well this is his team from now on.
Remember, KF gave Rudock his job back after CJ played at a level higher than JR had ever played in his life against Pitt and Purdue. Dude is stubborn as sh*t, and he is not about to admit that he made a mistake, especially when everyone knows it.

Edit to add that CM being the highest-paid player on the team makes his return even more likely.

Yup. Longest stretch without 300 yards in all of P4, exceeding the next longest drought by almost 3 years. It will be a modern record that will never be touched or even approached.

KF's losses as a Big Ten coach is another unbreakable record.

Give me examples of Kirk changing quarterbacks for ANY reason other than a broken leg. Even then...

Wow, Cade stinks and has been terrible all season and yet you want him available why?
At least Marco is fun to watch run around! We get zero benefit from Cade coming back. I hope he’s ok but he needs to move on with life out of playing this game.
