Des King's punishment.

King has sucked last couple of games

I agree -- I wonder what is wrong with him? He's been playing way off of receivers, missed a really easy pick today, muffed the punt. On the other hand, he had a critical fumble recovery when Mccarron fumbled on the kick return.

Maybe he is believing his press clippings? Anyway, I hope he gets his head screwed on straight, moving forward.

King looks like he has a lot on his mind - thinking too much and not relying on his skill/instincts. Would guess NFL after this year. The kid also has stone hands lately. Hope he goes out and plays up to his potential over these next 2 or 3 games....

I think the NFL might be the problem. Heard that was an issue last year with some seniors.

I agree, he looks a little lazy out there lately. Starts back pedaling before the ball even gets snapped. Doesn't even seem to get into a good stance, way too relaxed. Hope his success isn't getting to his head (which might explain getting to a meeting late).

It kinda looked like he was trying to get back at the coaches with his play today. That being said he has been a major stud most of the season.

Welp......11-1 is a pretty good season too.

Yep agree 100%, he would be better off coming back next year to sure things up

Did you morons see the huge punt return at a critical juncture of the game? He made an atypical mistake today, but was again clutch with the huge return and recovery of his teammates fumble. His coverage must have been solid as balls were seldomly coming his way.

Thanks for over reacting and calling people morons. I mentioned the fumble recovery in my post.

By the way, if King would finish plays the Nebraska receiver that pulled one in while he was laying on his back would have never had the opportunity. King just stood there and never finished the play.

He is playing like he is hurt or just plain lazy the last few games. If you think he looks the same, you are the one that is a MORON.

I have wondered if the cold weather is bothering him. I know the cold seems to affect some more than others. Might also explain the drops lately. BTW he has been one of my favorites the past couple years. Just needs to take care of business and the NFL will take care of itself

I do want to get into name calling but what's the point of calling out any of our players on the first team ever in our history to go undefeated in the regular season? 12 & freaking zero! Who saw that coming?

It's a long, grueling season and at this point no one who has been playing all year looks exactly like they did on game 1. We are quite banged up as a team but guys are gutting it out. King rolled an ankle at the end of last week's game. He had the muffed punt but was good in run support, almost had 2 picks, had a punt return that set up a TD drive and recovered McCarron's kick off return fumble. By the way the next play Canzeri goes for 67 yards which turned out to be the game winner. Think about that swing if Nebby recovers! So I am really not sure I agree.

I was surprised Riley didn't test the secondary early with him sitting. First 10 of 11 plays were runs. He never went off script. Looked like Iowa could have played a 5-2 defense and they still would have run early.

Your welcome. If getting yourself in position for an opportunity numerous interceptions is considered "playing lazy", I want that guy on my team.

That comment obviously wasn't referring to King's play earlier in the season when he was making all of his picks.

Very weak on the name-calling.

King did have a critical fumble recovery, to his credit, but he didn't have a good game today. That was clear to those of us who were paying attention. Maybin, on the other hand, played a great game.

I hope King gets things straightened out for next weekend, because he's obviously a huge key to the performance of our defense. I think he will.

We are 12 and 0. King is one of the great Hawkeyes of all time. The negative nellies still come out. Outside of his 1st muffed punt of the year(great year), how one could conclude he played poorly is beyond me.

King appeared to be injured the on one of the last plays against Purdue. He probably was not 100 %.

I think he played well. The muffed punt was with a strong wind at his back and from what I heard, the wind swirls around in Nebraska. Also, you saw him run up about 6-8 feet at the end so it obviously had an effect.
The dropped pass was near his ankles, as I recall. He has caught those before, but you shouldn't expect someone to catch everyone of those.
The play he 'didn't finish' was kind of a weird fluke thing. The ball is not in the receivers hans - so you would think everything is done, but it lands on the guys legs and he grabs it. Oh well.

Well then.... simply tell us why he did not play well outside of the muffed punt. It's obvious you have some special insight. Was he beat deep? Do you have any stats to back up that assessment?

I noticed him limping at a much earlier point in the Purdue game, but still had many near interceptions. He was slow to get up near the end of the game. He is a stud, playing well, and there are no indications any injuries were bothering him today.

I really don't like Nebraska, but King wasn't allegedly late.
I don't think King is too fond of the cold and I'm being totally honest. Kind of has the 'get the hell out of here' look the last couple weeks.

Besides the muff and one soft coverage play I thought he looked fine. I did not see him give up any big plays and his run support looked real good. Not sure why some folks are looking so hard to find an issue.

The muff was about all I saw that was bad. It seems there's a segment of our fanbase that always have to bash our secondary. Mabin played well so King gets their wrath.

Saying that King wasn't great but outside of the muff he wasn't bad. The narrative some are having is way off base.

Where King is really valuable is in his quick recognition of alignment and identification of likely plays to be run out of it. He is constantly instructing the other DBs based on what he is seeing on the field, which comes from his film study.

He had the near INT and a few other good plays like the McCarron fumble recovery.

That having been said, where Ol' Doodle would fault him...and where he really could have impacted the game negatively...was his needless personal foul on Jewell's INT return. That probably cost us at least 3 points in a tight game and that is something a team leader simply cannot do.

But all in all, he is a critical piece to the puzzle and we will need him at his best going forward.

King more than made up for his punt fumble. Glad he and the Hawks were able to finish!! Go Hawks!! 12-0

Being a little late to a meeting is one thing, but it sounds like he MISSED it. That's a problem.

Dropped picks, soft coverage, and missed tackles. I personally feel there is an injury we're not hearing about.
