DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa Head Coach?

Tell us more, obviously, you have been in contact with Beth or better yet, you've been in the room along with Beth giving her your insight on who should take over the reins of the men's basketball program. Otherwise best you keep it to yourself if it's just your opinion, which didn't hold water right now, Come back when you have breaking news....
Chill the F out. It’s just an opinion.

If those bother you why are you on a message board?

Minus the grift and extreme incompetence? Sure.

I’m afraid that’s not what we’re getting. It’s a kakistocracy with a hefty dose of plutocracy(I mean we’ve had this for a long time, but it’s on supercharge now,) and a dash of theocracy.

I’m sure it’ll turn out great for us. Thanks!
So you're telling us you're glad Biden is out? Thanks for getting on board! Tell me who's the bigger grifter than Biden and his family? Did you pay $75K+ for a Hunter Biden finger painting? Or were you on the board of Burisma? Were you part of the 10% for the "big guy"? Did you get a gov't grant to study transgender men in women's sports?

Kamala, that you?

You are deluded.
Oh tell me more.... you love government over spending? You realize Social Security & Medicare were/are in danger due to the previous party's mismanagement and lack of oversight right? that's just the tip of the iceberg. Donald & Elon are the saviors of the U.S. MAGA is the real deal & you should show appreciation. Sorry your non-profit is rightly being defunded. Get a real job, if you're qualified!

FWIW Kakert and Leistikow have thrown out $2.5 million as Men's basketball share of the rev split.
That’s what Beth has hinted at. $15M for football, $2.5M for MBB, $2M for WBB, $1M for wrestling.

All BIG and SEC schools are going to be at $15M for football. The difference will be in the splits for other sports.

Who knows. Seems like a reasonable assumption but maybe Beth knew they were probably not likely and she's keeping her ultimate choice under wraps.

Just hope we end up with a good get. Who that is....no idea at this point.

Nobody had Lester on their radar when BF left and I like how that ended up. Hopefully we get a repeat.
DeVries was obviously choice 1 and Iowa got out bid.

McCollum is obviously choice #2 because how the hell could he not be? He should have been #1.

I’m not convinced he was #1. Devries at his press conference talked about the fact that IU had been pursuing him during the season. If nothing else, we drove up the price they had to pay to get him. 😎

My opinion is irrelevant but McCollum has won with his guys that were lightly recruited. He won't need the massive NIL budget to win... I hope.

I think that's why I'm good with him being the next guy... if he is the next guy.

I think Ben is the guy, too. But just remember, fans on here are demanding 2 things:

(1) BETTER than upper half finishes in the B1G

(2) a Sweet 16 appearance very soon

The new head coach can coach the roster up, for sure, but you still need talent to win and that talent wants to get paid.

That's because division II is populated with lightly recruited players,.. McCollum will need all the NIL he can find.

And Division 1 is full of players who think they are worth more than they really are, will enter the portal, then discover nobody wants to pay them millions of dollars and they have no place to go.

Yes, NIL *is* important. But at the same time, there is only so much money and slots available. There are PLENTY of players out there that can make a team competitive….with the right coach.

Some fans seem to have reached the conclusion that every team will have millions and millions of NIL dollars to throw around, and will be stocking up on 5 star talent (except Iowa of course…Iowa will never be able to get a good coach or players).

B. Mac is the only answer here. Iowa will not get a big name coach due to NIL. Mac has built championship teams with little or zero NIL in after Division II. He's the guy, bank on it.
He's the guy for other teams too.
I'm guessing he won't do anything until after the ncaa's

normally I'd be pulling for them, but in this case I have to admit I'd like to see their season end sooner rather than later.
I would as well. But I have them going to the sweet 16 in my bracket. I love their draw.

At this point, I would guess WVa is our top competition for McCollum. It's worth thinking about how the Iowa and WVa jobs might compare from BM's perspective

Iowa:
  • Unmatched media rights deal, ensuring sustained strong institutional support, in terms of salary, facilities, etc.
  • Weak NIL program at present
  • Will require significant efforts to re-engage fan base and develop NIL support
  • Excellent proximity to McCollum's established recruiting base in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, etc.
  • Emotional connection ... McCollum grew up a Hawkeye fan
  • Administration that has historically shown tremendous patience with coaches ... one down year won't get you fired
WVa:
  • Good institutional support, but B12 will never match B1G in terms of TV money coming in.
  • Decent, established NIL program
  • Strong fan support
  • Will need to develop new recruiting base, but proximity to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, DC, etc. provides strong potential
  • Less familiarity with living in West Virginia, after spending most of his life in Iowa and NW Missouri.
  • Familiarity with AD

At the end of the day, it will depend on what McCollum prioritizes, where he thinks he can be successful, and where he and his family want to spend the next 10-15 years (hopefully).

He doesn’t want to move his family to Morgantown. That place is ****ing weird. Shit, DD would’ve probably taken the Minnesota job before going back there

Not sure this is true. DD had been negotiating with IU for months per reports. Where are the reliable reports that DD was her first choice?

Delusion is obvious. The Biden crime family probably made more than the Clinton Klan. Our great president is ridding this nation of corruption & fraud at the highest levels & you cannot argue this. The billions of waste & fraud Elon's team has uncovered is just the tip.... you like the tip, don't you?
Hey @tweeterhawk I noticed you didn’t tell your breitbart buddy to keep this off the bball board.

Also worth noting: I saw a story somewhere in the last few days (can't remember where ... I've consumed so much) about how McCollum said moving to Drake/Des Moines was based largely on his family being comfortable with the move. Of course, almost every coach is going to say something like this, but it's still worth noting when trying to guess what McCollum might be thinking.

Meh, upper half BIG finishes don’t really move the needle for me. The goal is winning enough games to get into the tournament and then winning once in. Obviously to get there you’ve got to win a good amount of conference games, but to me the ultimate goal is POSTSEASON success. Fran was pretty good at getting there, but the seasons ALWAYS ended in disappointment!

McCollum turned down WVU last year evidently. Two various internet guys who seem well informed. Don’t see McCollum as a top candidate for West Virginia. Trilly and another writer has Frazier and Calhoun as top WVU targets.

Well today your opinion will be put out to the test.

I looked at the Missouri roster and they have THREE 7 footers! Including Trent Burns who is 7-5!!

They have 6 players that are taller than Drake's tallest player.

Today will show what BM can do or can't do with limited NIL.

With what I said, I still think we can do better than what Drake can offer for NIL. I hope...
