The guys that keep saying Iowa lacks a break down super quick PG, like every one else has? Well tonight a super quick PG, in his 6th or 7th year of post secondary ball, will play directly against each other.

I think at the end of the game Iowa fans will be very happy with the outcome of that personal duel.

I don't think Iowa fans want Trey Dickerson.

They want a combo of John Stockton, Rod Strickland, Steve Nash, Chris Paul, and Kyrie Irving, maybe with a little Russell Westbrook mixed in.

Or just another Ronnie Lester.

Personally, I'm okay with Bohannon as long as Moss, Dailey, Baer, and whoever else plays the wings can attack the basket to score or break down defenses with consistent success.

Nobody wants a Trey Dickerson, a guy who wasn't good enough to beat out Anthony Clemons.

Actually what this team really needs is a Pierre Pierce (save the comments) type of guard. A bigger guard who could get in the lane to create offense and defend 2s on the other end.

Hopefully Moss and Williams can become this.

I'll supply the laptops.

What a piss poor comparison. Has anyone posted that Trey Dickerson is/was the slasher, penetrating guard that Iowa needs. As was said by someone else the guy could not beat out Sap for playing time. Can you point to anyone on the planet that thinks Trey is a top flight P5 PG? Go back to sleep.

I should know better than to do this, but for fuqksakes Jason is a freshman! And he's a freshman who likes to work. He could turn out to be really damn good off the dribble. His body has yet to mature. His base will get stronger and more explosive. Will he ever be finishing on top of people at the rim? Who cares. I just want him to develop the strength and explosion at the point of attack to make the defense react—at which point he has the skill to exploit be it with a pull-up, a floater, or learn to create contact that creates angles & openings to finish at the rim. He's capable of this down the line.

We should be damn happy with Bohannon. And we should hope that Fran finds/develops the guys to compliment him. I've been saying for years that there are two players this program has been desperately missing. One is a dog. Like Horton. Enter Pemsl. The other is a real leader. Like Jacque Vaughn or Mateen Cleaves. Enter Bohannon.

Bohannon might just start making people think a bit about Mark Price. Be patient, and enjoy.

Part in bold. First time I've disagreed with you. Having an idea of the work you put in and your experiences, oh yes you should be contributing to the education of the Iowa fan base. We've got a great group of young guys and a coaching staff that works hard, really hard, to bring in and develop basketball players.

All the support fans can throw their way only helps.

I don't think Pierre Pierce was that good. Slow release with Moonball 3pt shooter. Terrible FT shooter. That said, having a guy that could get to hoop would be big for this Iowa team.

Watching Dickerson...he looks like he would be upgrade over CW. Fran ran Dickerson of the team and got CW.

Bull. Trey chose to talk with McCaffery during the season about playing time and the writing was on the wall, with Gesell and Clemmons coming back for one more year it was going to be unlikely that he'd see many minutes.

Fran could have glued Trey to a bench and he'd have still found a way to leave.

It was about playing time.

If Fran knew he was going to run anyone off he wouldn't have asked Christian to be patient before committing anywhere, he'd have just offered.

As far as this "upgrade" stuff.....I know Christian is one of the kicking stools of some fans but at least he didn't finish the game with only two assists and three turnovers like the point guard you like better did.

I don't think Trey would have fit in at Iowa. He has great quickness, and has improved his shooting stroke, but I thought his play was, and is, more fit for a street ball-style game where he can just beat his man in an iso. He doesn't seem to work very well within an offensive system in terms of facilitating, and of course, is still way too out of control at times.

It all worked out okay, because the commentators made it sound like he's really happy at SD, and Iowa has found a different, solid PG.

Related: I think that Bohannon, as his career progresses, will do a better job of getting into the lane than people think. Tonight, South Dakota went all out pressuring him at the top of the key (maybe more than any opposing team has this year), trying to take away the three point shot. Jordan did a nice job of adjusting, and managed to beat his guy off the dribble several times for layups (more than I've seen him take/make all season). He's kind of the anti-Mike Gesell in that teams sagged way off MG, giving him open jumpers while taking away the lane, but they play way tight on Bohannon on the perimeter, opening up driving/backdoor cut opportunities.

Just a side note, why does everyone hate Williams? He's the best defensive guard on the team and has the potential to still be a guy that can get to the rim.

Dickerson wasn't that good when he was signed and he isn't all that much better now. I couldn't watch much of the game but Bohannon's stats are very impressive tonight.

Nobody hates Williams. Many feel that he is playing out of position. I'd have to reluctantly agree. There's no doubt that he's more than capable of defending the 1-3 position, however, I don't think he has the handles to be the primary ballhandler. He's typically at his best when he's on the court alongside Bohannon, who takes quite a bit of the pressure off.

CW is only a sophomore though. Tighten the handles and improve the jump shot, and he should be a solid contributor for years to come.

If only it were that easy.

I don't know man. Read the game threads on Williams. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular in this thread.

I agree about the position issue but we really don't have a lot else to run the point. I do like it when he is in with JBo, Jok and scoring posts. Not so much with Uhl and Wagner.

The same posters have plenty of hate to go around. Nothing personal, they just don't like guys having bad games or seasons where they don't progress as fast as others.

Actually, I'd settle for Jason Kidd with the shooting ability of Mark Price...I don't think it's too much to ask, honestly...

People rag on Williams because frequently when he comes in we see at least one possession of 20 seconds dribbling at the top without initiating anything. I'm not saying it's his fault, because at some point, someone needs to be open, but if things are breaking down, penetrate and kick!

It is things that can be fixed. He is definitely athletic enough, now it's up to Christian and the coachers to put in the work.

He's got two full years. He'll be fine. Ideally, Connor is capable of running backup PG as a freshman and CW takes over as a slashing, defensive specialist at the 2 or 3.

You could probably find posters calling for just about every player to be benched if you looked through all the game threads. Most of the stuff there is emotional overreaction... I'm guilty of it too.

He is what he is and he can improve. It's just not easy to do what you said while in college and during the season.

The problem with Williams was summed up by the announcers pretty well during one possession, to paraphrase "Williams is sure doing a lot of dribbling but not really doing anything with it to help the offense".

He plays great defense, but doesn't have the purpose or presence on offense to keep things flowing when he was in charge in the half court last night.

Good GAWD, PP was a selfish bricklayer and anything but a point guard. He could get to the hoop, defend and rebound, but he was not a distributer and didn't create shots for anyone but himself. No thanks. I think that team was eventually (next year) better off without him. A cancer in more ways than one. You should be banned for saying his name! (Kidding).

I agree with this. Pierce filled a lineup spot at PG but was athletically more of a SF. I remember him moving from PG to SF for a first round NIT game vs. LSU (which we lost) and he scored a ton.

I see Moss becoming that guy before our Hawk Eyes!
