Screw Dick. Ranked us 7th this week on his ballot. Will be happy when his annoying ass is finally watching games from home.
Over under on how many times he mentions Duke during the broadcast, I will set the number at 3.
Or how many times he talks about Bobby Knight.
I will be very happy when Vitale and "mushmouth" (Musberger) hang it up. Hope its before they or I die.
like him or not, but kids like him and he has a big mouth. so if he is talking about Iowa and how good they are , the nation is listening and its good for the iowa program.
also, Fran and him are buds so nice things about Iowa will be coming out of his mouth.
this is a win for Iowa. and the game is on ESPN, for the whole nation to see.
Duke has absolutely no relevancy in the game. But will be mentioned AT LEAST twice. Dukie V will somehow steer the conversation that way.
I'll take the over. What's the over under on "The General" and Bob Knight references. I'm guessing he mentions or references Bob Knight more than he mentions or references the words "Hawkeyes" and "Iowa".
Hate on him all you want, but let's be real. Games that he or Bilas are calling feel like bigger games than usual.

Well, it's better than double D, but that ain't sayin' much. How far will we be into the game before we notice that what DV is talking about has absolutely nothing to do with the game unfolding a few feet in front of him? And how many times will that happen? Trying to find a decent broadcaster these days is like trying to find a palm tree in Iowa City.
BTW: Good thing DV is a friend of Fran's. Otherwise, he would have ranked Iowa #17 instead of #7. Yes sir, Dickie V's quite the objective arbiter of the hardwood.

It's kind of like Musberger calling a football game. Shows that you are playing well and have earned respect, but at the same time, really wish you didn't have to deal with it
Speaking of Musberger, how long has he been doing basketball? I've noticed him doing it this year a lot, and it's really annoying. The big Oklahoma/Kansas game earlier had both Dukie V and Musberger. That was a catastrophe.

If the kids like it, I'm in. He did use his AP vote to put Iowa at #7 though, which was one of the lower votes they got.
Indiana is about the only B10 team Dick will cover (maybe MSU once every four years -- or whenever they play Duke). He must have it in his contract to stick to a rotation of about ten schools: Duke, Duke, UNC, Duke, Duke, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Duke, IU.

During these rare days when Vitale is involved in an Iowa game, I always think of the time I ran into him alone, very early on a Sunday morning on the Ped Mall. I don't know why I was there which wasn't unusual for me back in the day, but he had just come out of the Motel and was buying a newspaper.
No one else around.
He turned and I saw that rat faced rodent with eyes nearly swollen shut and pale skin and patchy bald head and I knew I had him right where he didn't want to be. He knew it too and you folks should have seen him scurry back into the motel!!!
I don't know...I'm not violent...but I think he and I each knew that destiny itself was flipping a coin deciding what to do...

The last time Dickie V did an Iowa game was at Michigan St. at the end of the 2012/13 season when Zach McCabe flipped the punk Trice on his back after Trice initiated the contact....oh how could such a travesty happen to a fine young Michigan State player.....LOL
I think Dickie did the two-hour UNC commercial last year....err I mean Iowa's win over UNC in Chapel Hill.
I can't listen to Dickie V. I will just turn on the radio and listen to Dolph and Bobby as I've don for years. Hopefully the sound will be somewhat synchronized with the picture.
Dookie V has become a punchline. I can't believe anyone likes listening to that disingenuous blowhard. Every coach is the "best in the country". There can't be that many bests. I really used to like him and Jim Valvano but his schtick and Duke sucking has grown tiresome and embarrassing. Wish we had Gus Johnson do every game.
I don't typical care who the commentators are for whatever sports....but ever since I was a kid I've disliked DickV. Can't stand the annoying little twerp.
