Did anybody notice Cook on the bench, towel over his head at the end?

I have to comment on this again, sorry.

I think it is pretty funny to think it is easier to earn respect from opponents.
Do you think TN would show him any respect if they thought he was just some lazy bum giving half effort?

Come on, do you really think that?
Think it thru.

He is a tremendous natural talent.

Most players these days respect talent over effort.

Labron is a tremendous talent and gives maximum effort...but do you think he'd get the respect he does if he wasn't as talented?

20 years ago I'd have completely agreed with you, that if the opposing players are showing respect at the end of the game, then we should assume he "earned it" thru hustle and effort. Not today.

LeBron does not give maximum effort... and I’m a LeBron is the GOAT guy too.

A lot of times TC is hesitant and trying too hard not to screw up/commit fouls. He gives pretty solid effort. Needs to become more fundamentally sound in terms of boxing out

I have yet to see Cook do this after he's beaten.

I could post a few gifs of Cook giving effort too. Have you seen LeBron’s defense this year? There was one play where one of his teammates shoved him to close out on a shooter. Don’t get why you would choose not to respect an Iowa player. But whatever

Cook could have had a great career at Iowa, but he thought he was NBA ready coming out of high school and Iowa was a short pit-stop. IMO he has failed to capitalize on his God given athletic ability at Iowa. If he stays, he has one year to prove us all wrong. I just hope he does not stay and continue the half-*** effort 80% of the time. If his mindset does not change next year he will only be a detriment to the team. Again all IMO.

Simple, respect is earned...he hasn't earned it in my eyes.

Guys like Baer and Kriener have 1/5 Cook's talent, but those guys appear to be giving 10x the effort most of the time.

I’m sure he felt terrible about the missed free throws at the end. Not sure he’s made a decision yet, but another year at Iowa would only help him. Not looking any better now than at end of last year for the draft, In my opinion.

Actually it might be worse. Some would say this year really showed his deficiencies on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. His tendency to disappear at times can’t be overlooked as well.

The piling on Cook is honestly getting ridiculous. This guy clearly cares about Iowa and this team as you can tell by his reaction on the bench after the game. He might make mistakes from time to time (as does every player) but he absolutely gives effort when he's out on the court. Not to mention, his leadership this year has been huge! Pretty much every possession he's gathering up the team and talking to them. Without Cook there is no way in hell we make it to the ncaa tournament this year. I think some of the people attacking him on this board are just 50 year old dudes who got way too sensitive when Cook said he was going to get evaluated for the NBA draft. For some reason that really hurt their feelings...

Agreed. I want Cook back and this team needs him.

I think those blindly defending him are 20-something beta males who believe in creating safe spaces on campus.

Respect is earned...same with criticism.

I saw the main guys from Tennessee go over to Cook and Garza after the game and showed some mad respect. I believe had Iowa continued to go inside they would have won this game. The Vols big men could not handle the inside presence of Cook and Garza. Inside out was the potential winning formula, as even C. Web commented on this. C. Web said that Iowa does not have anyone who can take you off the dribble; therefore, they need to play inside out. In addition, he said that Iowa guards were spot up shooters. (paraphrased and true.)

and yet fran doesn't seem to realize this.
why do we seem to have a size advantage most games( and sacrifice speed for it )but then we don't use that size and end up jacking up a bunch of bad shots.

i just don't get it.....

It looks like Cook will really leave and not play out his Senior year, I didn't think he showed enough this year to go pro so its kinda surprising that he acted like this was his last game in College.

I don't know if he'll stay or go....but you don't think there's a chance he just really wanted to win the game and was crushed about the loss and things he could have done differently to change the outcome? If you're taking the towel over the head as proof of leaving, I think you're trying too hard to look for a reason.

That's not a very respectful reply.

I dont think you have earned a respectful reply. You still haven't answered my question in a thread from several weeks back...stating that you didn't owe me a response because you said things were "obvious" and that you didn't have the time.

A word of advice. If you are going to talk about earning respect, you should practice what you preach. In my posts asking for a response you proceeded to provide excuses, disrespecting me by saying you had no time to explain yourself. You lose a lot of respect by making excuses. So if you're going to preach earning respect, you might want to hold yourself in a more respectful way than you are now.

Shoutout to Nicholas Baer, his last game and Garza went to him for comfort after the loss.
Maybe this is wishful thinking by a person in the program, but I was told Cook will be back next year.

They dug a bad hole both games bumy missing those bunnies down low. At some point you need to gain some points & fast. Inexcusable for some of those misses. Then Cook would get fouled and you could go make yourself a snack/drink because you knew those foul shots weren't going in when needed.

Funny, because you certainly deserve any criticism that comes your way and zero respect. Remember, that's life.

First off...

Secondly, thanks for agreeing with me that respect is earned.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I think he’ll grad transfer. Don’t blame him either.
Are you kidding??? Did you not notice we CAME BACK against Cincy when Cook was OUT? He was afraid to defend the rim and didn't rebound until the last 2 minutes. (Presumably because he was afraid to foul). He USUALLY loses the ball when he dribbles and missed a dozen layups because he neither dunked it nor used the glass when he could/should have. I watched both games with 4 other guys who shared these thoughts. I can't imagine where your "Don't blame him" statement is coming from. Did you feel Baer, Wieskamp, JBo, Luka or Kriener let him down? I think your statement is asinine.

I would love nothing more than to see him come back, work hard on his weakness and have a dominant season.

<reposted from this time last year>

Agree. This year I think he really tried to address what the NBA people highlighted as weaknesses. He probably never going to develop a good jumper. He's not a great ball handler....but he should go seek feedback again this year and come back next year and focus on where he can demonstrate the ability to find an NBA niche. Further develop his post game. Continue to work on D. Hit the boards.
