Did anyone go the the basketball scrimmage today?

You don't think he has a legitimate gripe?
Yes, there are gripes about Iowa sports anything, I know it and I feel it. But to constantly gripe, bitch and moan, with the same tired act, is old, very old. Can you 2 ever find something positive to say about the basketball team? Find some new material, find a new team, maybe some new wood paneling for your computer room. Swim team, golf team, hilarious takes, meaningful too.

Frans teams have not been crappy or futile, as shown by his B10 record et al.

Yes, we've struggled in the NCAA's so it's totally fair to bitch about that. But stretching that critique into saying the teams have been crappy for 30 years is just disingenuous and stupid.

The best predictor of NCAA success is regular season success. It just hasn't happened, and quite frankly it didn't happen for Bluder for a long time either. And then it did. But, yes, Fran likely has 1 more season in him I'd guess as fans would rather fail with a new coach.

Bluder had a lot more success in Big10 play and it came earlier with higher place conference finishes than Fran has ever achieved.

Fran while having a winning record in Big10 play, it isn't that much above 0.500, especially after you factor in BTT w-l in which he overall has a losing record.

I agree Fran's teams haven't been crappy or futile, but a little bit better than Big10 average is a fair description for his entire 13 year career or whatever its been at Iowa. He's got losing records in BTT play and NCAA tourney play---that is the part of the season that defines success for many.

Is this the year Fran gets over the hump and makes a sweet16 in NCAA play. It is possible, though he's now well into his 60's and never gotten that far. If someone could have predicted the future when Fran was hired and say we'd never win a Big10 regular season title and never even sniff the NCAA Sweet16 in his first 13 years, I would have said "meh" and chosen a different path because I'd give up consistent 0.500 conference play for more more upside, That is my preference. Obviously lot of fans groove on being above 0.500 but not actually competing for Big10 tiltes----but that is a minority of fans. That is why Women's basketball became more popular than Men's basketball while CC had her run because the women did special stuff.

Iowa went to the Sweet 16 in '88 as well
I see you're kinda special.

Iowa lost to Arizona (79-99) in the West Regional Semifinal (Sweet Sixteen) game on March 25, 1988.

The period from March 26, 1988 to today is 36 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Iowa has played in one Regional Semifinal (Sweet Sixteen) game since the '88 game -- March 18, 1999 (UConn 78 Iowa 68).

Accordingly, Iowa has one Sweet Sixteen appearance in the last 36 years, 5 months and 9 days (and that one appearance was 25 years, 5 months, and 17 days ago).

Feel free to review the above as slowly as you want, and as many times as it takes. Have a great day, and hang in there, fella.

Yeah, well despite that, most people don't say Iowa has two Sweet16 appearances in the last however many exact days it is. Most people say Iowa has 2 Sweet16's in the last 36 years, and 3 Sweet16's in the last 37 years, and you know it.

The way you have presented it is in the spirit of exaggeration.

Most people would say Iowa's last Sweet16 was 25 years ago. Maybe a couple might say it was 25 years, 5 months, and 17 days ago. Nobody would say it was 26 years ago

Most 34 year old women say they're 29. That doesn't make it accurate or true.

It's been more than 37 years since March of '87.
It's been more than 36 years since March of '88. It's been more than 25 years since March of '99. That's just .....the math facts, man. The ACCURATE math facts.

For a fella that likes to lecture people on being better at math, and "exaggerating", you're sure kinda casual about both yourself. My numbers are accurate, yours actually inaccurately exaggerate to try to .....I guess?....put a positive spin on something that is overwhelmingly f*cking abysmal.

Like it's significantly better if Iowa has been to 2 Sweet Sixteens in the last 37 years instead of one, or one sweet sixteen in the last 25 years instead of one sweet sixteen in the last 26 years. LMFAO.

I'm just telling you the way it is commonly said. Pretty much everyone would say Iowa has been to 2 sweet16's in 36 years and 3 sweet16's in 37 years.

And again, you know it

eyes of hawk: "you should be better at math."

>> eyesofhawk is proven to not to understand the math involved.

eyesofhawk: "well, despite that (i.e., the actual correct math), nobody really understands math or speaks about it accurately."

I understand the math just fine.

The only thing I was proven wrong on was my assumption that you weren't insisting on using the English language in a way that nobody does

Think the team will be similar to last years record wise. Not any truly elite players on the roster.

Apparently, no one went to the scrimmage and as usual, the thread devolved into a pissing contest.
I was there pre-game hoping to see some action, but alas...it was not to meant to be. I did enjoy using the CHA bathroom over the port-a-johns though. ;) A shirts/skins game would have been a good PR move, but I guess that tradition is dead. Looking at the trophy cases - it was pretty apparent our best/golden years were the late 70's and 80's. Sure we had the odd lot BTT champ here and there over the last 33 years years, but it's safe to say we are a Football school just like Illinois is a basketball school. No shame in that...
