Did CJ go into the game with a bum ankle/foot?

This is Fran in the post game:

McCAFFERY: I think there’s that, but I also think we really needed Fredrick. He didn’t have it today. He thought he could go, but didn’t do much in the first half and couldn’t play in the second half.

This sound ominous.

yeah... that's sounding more like a foot / stress fracture type of issue and that's not good at all. Time to send some coaches over to the field house to scout some pick up games.

If you watch C.J. while he was in the game during the 1st half, there was zero evidence of any sprain whatsoever, saying there might be something more serious is not out of the question. If it's a stress fracture that C.J. is dealing with, it will be a major blow to Iowa's run to any post season games. Iowa already has a number of players that defer to others to score creating rushed offensive possessions and scramble situations.
C.J. had plunty of opportunities to put up shots today and turned most of them down. I understand he's a 2nd year freshmen but Iowa is going nowhere without his production on the offensive end..

Fran made it sound like it was pre-existing, according to Mark Emmert. So hopefully a few hours in that sauna yesterday and a couple of days recovering will do the trick.

If not, sit him for Nebbie. We'll need him for Maryland for sure!

Correct. Appears there was a pre-existing issue.

The toughness of this team and coaching staff will continue to be challenged. I see this adversity being huge down the stretch if CJ can get healthy. Is Riley Till ready to go? I love this team I just hope they don’t run out of gas.

Getting CJ back will be hUge. Fingers crossed that his injury is minimal. Since they team doctors gave him the green light to play yesterday, I am guessing the severity is not that bad.

Fran may sit CJ for Nebbie(unless needed) and make certain he is 100% for Maryland. That's my hunch. Hope it is correct! Or better yet, he is 100% for beating the Choir Boys arse in Lincoln!

I think we will be fine the rest of the year - barring more injuries! Plenty of teams go with just 7 or 8 players and win.

We just need to get the players that are going to play this year (Pemsl & CJ) healthy, and hope that nobody else happens to get injured!

No doubt! My fear if CJ can’t go against Nebraska is that their athleticism will be a huge problem. Will need Joe T and Evelyn to step up if CJ can’t go.

I don’t know how hard you can in practice if you’ve got 6/7 guys that you have a comfort level seeing on the floor in game situations.
We don’t have red shirts in a practice jersey to help us either. I don’t know how we avoid burnout, the freshman wall, etc. as things we are.

We’ll be fine 1-3 next year, but we need a four to fall from the sky to really go somewhere. I like our style because it’s fun to watch. I could see Joe T, J Bo, CJF, and Joe W being the 4 guards who start with Garza. Conner would be a super sub ready to back up the 1-4. We need next season to be great as the next Luka doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.

If we could find a legit 4 who could step outside and rebound we could be awesome.

You might want to rewatch that game.
He was limping around during fouls shots in the first half.

PMac with 25+ more pounds wouldn't hurt. That could happen....but it may be his junior or senior year.

We will need Nunge and Pemsl to step it up next year. If the two ever get healthy, it can most certainly happen. I believe that to be true.

Ogundele could be something. But he will take a year or two. Thus Nunge & Pemsl need to get healthy!!

soon Iowa's going to be putting less than 5 guys out there because they're all injured

Pemsl is done, he's only playing now because of all those injuries. He won't play any next year if Nunge comes back healthy, and Ogundele shows anything, along with Garza and other freshman. It wouldn't actually surprised me if he transferred out or left team all together.

Totally untrue. I know this for FACT

Pemsl is a big body who has always played below the rim. He's not a threat to shoot from the outside and doesn't handle the ball very well. He has shown some ability to pass the ball which I don't remember much in previous years and he's pretty tough. We need him now more than ever and he is and can be a serviceable backup to Garza.
