Did we win a trip to the Rose Bowl?

Although Iowa should go to the Rose, they won't. It is a lock for OSU.

Why is everyone so caught up with the Rose Bowl..?? I would rather go to the Fiesta and spank ND or someone else, but especially ND because I am sure we recruit in the same circles in the upper Midwest as compared to Stanford.....

I think it would be good for the Big Ten to send Iowa to the Rose Bowl. You shouldn't be penalized for losing in a CCG. You are the next best Big Ten team regardless of ratings and fan base size. You could have won last night if things were just slightly different.

Sending OSU is what is wrong with college football. All about ratings, match ups, filling hotels, etc. just let it be about the game. Iowa should be in the Rose Bowl and I, for one, am sick of the preferential treatment that the traditional programs receive. Nebraska included.

Iowa cant convert on third down-i would imagine that is a requirement to play in the rose bowl
Weren't we like 47% converting on third down before the Nebraska game? Yes we were 0fer in the Nebraska game and not great again last night but throughout the season 3rd down conversions has been one of the strengths of our offense, well unless is third and short.

Let's see. Ohio State had 5 first downs against Michigan State. If converting third downs is the requirement for going to the Rose, Buckeyes won't be there.
We finished 4th in the B1G at 42.9% on third down conversions behind MSU, Michigan and Nebraska. Not exactly a weakness. OSU was seventh at 39.0%.

We both lost to the same team by 3 points. The tOSU loss was at home. Highest ranked win for Iowa. Division champs Iowa.

After the playoffs, the Bowls are all about who can get us the best ratings and most money. Based on that it could go either way. OSU traditionally gets the pick because of that but this year I could see the bid going to Iowa as well.

For all the success they've had, OSU has had very few Rose Bowl appearances the past 20 years. Some of it was due to BCS Bowl and playoff appearances during that time, some was because of ties in the conference standings where the other team had been to the Rose Bowl less recently. The latter being an old criteria.

While even with the loss last night this was a great season for the Hawkeyes. More of your fans may be more willing to travel. Despite the 11-1 record for most Buckeye fans this season was a disappointment which may dampen some willingness to travel.

I do know this, based on where both teams will be ranked, that really won't make much of a difference, even in the end if they say it did.

OSU may get the nod over Iowa but let's not forgot that they lost to MSU without MSU's best player, a guy who will likely be a 1st round draft pick.

Its about the rankings. The Rose Bowl Committee says it will pick the highest ranked team between OSU and Iowa. I would hope that the Rose Bowl Committee does not attempting to impose its influence on the Committees unbiasd rankings.

So the fact that Ohio Stare is a better National TV appeal or Iowa a stronger traveling fan base should not be factors.

I am soooo happy the CFP committee exists! If the AP or Coaches rankings determined ranks or forbid the old BCS system, we would ahve dropped to 8 or 9 just because we played an additional game. I'm also glad they proved me wrong and saw through the osu facade and went with the actual performance instead of some ephemeral "amount of talent on the team" BS.

I've cooled off a bit from my prior post about not caring. Much of what I said I still agree with, but it's still rare to see the Hawks play there, whatever is or isn't on the line. And after what was expected for the season, who am I to complain with Pasadena?

Actually, the AP kept us ahead of OSU, as did the ESPN power ranking people. Coaches dropped us to 7th below Stanford and OSU.

LMAO after reading the posts on here. There is a whole lot of fail posted here. And not one of the posters has come back to eat crow. BAU.

Your right. I guess i should have been more clear in what i was thinking. Without the cfp comm, i dont think it would have been the case - ie, the cfp comm sort of keeps the ap more honest. The computer part of the bcs system would have also dropped the hawks more, or at least it seemed like a loss always seemed to really hurt teams like iowa at this time of the year.
