Do we have an Oliver Martin type WR already committed?

Sure, Martin has 4 stars, is born and bred in Hawkeye country and is a very solid prospect. That said, however, look at who we have committed and their current senior season stats vs. Martins. I don't know the competition levels of Corrales/Holmes/Smith, but still some good senior stats. Just curious if we are losing sight that we have some good WRs and a possible TE in Corrales coming in so even if we don't get Ollie (I'm not counting on it based on current press) I think we'll be fine. See below, thoughts?

Oliver Martin – 40 catches for 605 yards and 6 TD’s

Beau Corrales – 58 catches for 780 yards and 10 TD’s

Gavin Holmes – 41 catches for 781 yards and 8 TD’s

Brandon Smith – 37 catches for 712 yards and 8 TD’s

Beau Corrales is better. Plays so much better competition and putting up stupid numbers. Big, fast, and strong in comparison. Difference is that he is not a camper.

The stats of our commits are pretty fantastic. However, I think there's a reason that all of the big boys are after Martin, while the other guys have very few, if any, major offers. Coaches who do this for a living don't take kids based on high school stats, they go after potential and skill sets. Iowa can get commits from all of the Adrian Falconers it wants and hope that all the other schools were wrong about them...but our lack of WR success kind of speaks for itself. If Michigan wants a kid, I trust that he can be a star WR at the college level, regardless of his hs stats.

I think Martin will be a Hawk. But I think Holmes is probably just as good as Martin.

Tough to get a good read on Ollie, but he sure seemed high on the Fighting Harbaugh's and Michigan last weekend during his visit. Still wants to see Oregon and MSU, still wonder about family not being able to see him every weekend for 4 years playing into Iowa's favor at decision time. Agree what Holmes is blowing up and Corrales looks like a gem of a find right now, his senior tape is much better than jr. tape. Heard Falconer was dinged so that hurts too...has Boyle been on the field even for special teams this season?

I know someone from Texas that has seen Corrales play several times. Says we got a great player that is B1G ready. Impressive against large school competition in Texas.

Not sure how he compares to Martin, but sounded good to me.

Has there ever been a highly regarded WR recruit out of Iowa that (Hawk or not) ever panned out to the hype while in college? Arrington didn't, 4 star if my memory is good.

I truly don't remember many at all. Dwight...having trouble thinking of others.

I'd like to think Oliver will pan out no matter where he winds up at, but I have always believed recruiting really is a crap shoot of sorts, much like the MLB draft.

Lots do live up to the hype, but many just plain do not - no matter what position we're talking about.

Lazard (4-star) will be playing on Sundays for sure

Is this guy for real? I'd hardly call Arrington a flop, given that he was one of Michigan's top 2 WRs for two years, and went pro after his junior year. We could only dream of having a guy like that.

There's another highly regarded WR recruit out of Iowa (Darboh from Dowling) who is Michigan's top WR this year. At 6'4 with speed, he will be an obvious NFL draft pick.

Then there's the Lazard kid at Iowa State who had 810 yards receiving as a true sophomore last year and 111 yards against the Hawks this year. I'm pretty sure he panned out, and he's a good bet to play in the NFL. They also had Iowa boy Todd Blythe, who was arguably the top college WR in state history (no offense to Tim Dwight).

In fact, the only highly touted WR from Iowa that I can think of who hasn't exactly panned out in the past decade is Jay Scheel, but hopefully he turns it around.

Karl Noonan,(from the late 1960s) was a heckuva receiver out of Davenport, (I think). Get the ball anywhere near him and Karl would come down with it. Played year or two with the Dolphins.

Tim Freaking Dwight!!

What's interesting is that some of Iowa's greatest success at the WR position under Kirk came from two convertted QB's (McNutt and DJK). Without looking, not sure of the stats that Kasper put up in Kirk's first year or Mo Brown who was good but yeah, not exactly a secret that we can't recruit game ready as fresh/soph's 3-4 star WR talent.

Martin I think is about as close to a sure bet as you can get. Which is why he's such an important piece to the recruiting puzzle

He will get a shot. Don't know if it's sure he will be playing though.
A true 6'5" 225lbs receiver with amazing hands, who has excelled despite poor QB play, and, well, frankly poor everything. Now I dislike the clowns as much as anyone else on here, but imagine what he could be doing on a stable, talented, well coached team. And his potential will have a chance to be met and grow once he is drafted
