And/or a good system that worked. Then he had 700 yards in the NFL. Giving more credence to the point that Wisconsin had outstanding OLs.
Nobody is putting Wisconsin down by saying their line was great.

Can we please stop with the narrative that the OL was bad pass blocking? They allowed just 15 sacks on the season.Only wrong if the returning lineman get a clue on pass blocking. Improved their run blocking from last year and I love a mobile QB but being able set up and deliver on balance once in a while might promote some deep play offense that IOWA hasn’t seen for way too many years.
Yes, that’s exactly point.And/or a good system that worked.
How many hurries and running laterally only to throw the ball out of bounds to avoid losing yards on a sack. Can we please stop with the narrative that the OL was bad pass blocking? They allowed just 15 sacks on the season.
Probably less often than teams that gave up 30+ sacks? How many hurries and running laterally only to throw the ball out of bounds to avoid losing yards on a sack.
Look it up and get back to me. I guarantee it's not as bad as you want to believe it is.How many hurries and running laterally only to throw the ball out of bounds to avoid losing yards on a sack.
It's just hysterical to me that people continue to stick with the OL is trash narrative.Probably less often than teams that gave up 30+ sacks?
Barring mass losses in portal or someone landing in our lap, I see no reason to target RB in the portal.
So, I like that you're using a statistic to support your argument. The only problem with it is that the statistic you're using lacks any context whatsoever. Number of sacks per game is a fairly irrelevant number when viewed in a vacuum. A much better statistic considers how often a QB drops back to pass when discussing oline pass protection. A team that gives up 2 sacks per game while attempting 30 passes is probably a lot better at protection than a team that gives up 2 sacks per game while attempting 15, everything else being equal. Iowa threw the ball way less than any other team in FBS with the exception of the service academies. It's not a coincidence that Army and Navy are top 4 in sacks allowed. Iowa should have very few sacks based on that factor alone. Iowa State allowed the same number of sacks but attempted 200 more passes. Isn't that more relevant than simply using total sacks? Can we please stop with the narrative that the OL was bad pass blocking? They allowed just 15 sacks on the season.
The abysmal lateral running throw it out of bounds stat will cost them the Joe Moore award, no doubt.Look it up and get back to me. I guarantee it's not as bad as you want to believe it is.
Sure, and if you're good at finding good analytics, by all means do some digging. I'm not nearly good enough at finding that stuff. So, I like that you're using a statistic to support your argument. Of course it's also dependent on how long the QB holds onto the ball and how good they are at evading oncoming rushers.
A good offensive coordinator can hide a poor line. A good defensive coordinator can’t hide a bad dline.Na, spend that money on an OT, WRs and a QB
Not trash, they've improved, but looking at those teams with less than 15 sacks............ threw on average 127 more attempts. Only Navy (157) and Army (97) threw fewer passes than IOWA (242). Those teams with the same sack numbers (15) threw on average 151 more attempts. It's just hysterical to me that people continue to stick with the OL is trash narrative.
I'm not arguing they were great - but people who know far more than any of us said this was one of the best lines in the country when they were called a Joe Moore Award finalist. They don't consider only run blocking when they do that.
Didn't say they were good - but there's a wide gap between trash and great; and seemingly 75% of the board thinks it's full-on trash, and somehow KJ got all those yards on his own.Not trash, they've improved, but looking at those teams with less than 15 sacks............ threw on average 127 more attempts. If you are happy with our QB's being flushed too many times and passing on the run. Enjoy. I'd like to see it cleaned up and be able to set and deliver passes. Maybe even beyond the normal 10-15 yard completion we've seen the past several years. JMO.
Iowa get an elite Quarterback?I’m pretty happy with our RB room. If we go out and get a transfer RB it would have to be an elite talent. However, I would prefer getting an elite QB and going with what we have at RB instead of vice versa.
Absolutely, I was discussing offensive side of the ball, but Allen’s injury and lack of depth mak a the dline an absolute needA good offensive coordinator can hide a poor line. A good defensive coordinator can’t hide a bad dline.
Our pass protection was very, very poor. The run-blocking was obviously improved but overall...our senior-laden OL left A LOT to be desired.Didn't say they were good - but there's a wide gap between trash and great; and seemingly 75% of the board thinks it's full-on trash, and somehow KJ got all those yards on his own.
Always room to get better, but I also think improvement at QB will help tremendously as well. Not having a QB who's nailed to a spot in the backfield will help the OL by not giving opposing DLs an easy target.
Again...15 sacks allowed. Our pass protection was very, very poor. The run-blocking was obviously improved but overall...our senior-laden OL left A LOT to be desired.
George Barnett needs to be fired.
