Do you ever report dead deer or potholes in your area to get removed?

Here in Maryland there are tons of deer, especially during autumn which is mating season. They get hit by cars all the time. I call the state highway administration or county government after I spot them and they'll remove them in a couple business days.

I started reporting dead deer in 2018 after seeing one rotting on the side of the highway for a month. It was gross. I figured if I don't do it, no one will.

I'm proud of my civic duty. Several times, I've reported dead deer in grass near bus stops. The bus passengers would step in them at night probably because they couldn't see them. Foul

I don't know how many dead deer I've reported in total...at least 150.

I also report potholes; probably a few dozen since 2022 when I hit one at night in the rain going 30 MPH and my hubcap and rim got destroyed. $600 repair bill. Oy.

I reported that pothole and it was fixed within a few days. It was a busy street and I imagine tons of cars would have hit it if I didn't report it.

I'm currently reporting two huge potholes in a pharmacy parking lot. I haven't found the property manager so I reported it to the pharmacy manager and county government. I also found the previous leasing company and wrote them a letter. I'm hoping it's filled in a month.

CSB.

Anyone else do your civic duty?

If I reported a pothole around here I would image they would say that they will get to it in 5 to 10 years or so.

Do they know you by name or do you use a fake name every time.
Brian is calling again, I had to answer the last time he called.

the County where I live has a pretty easy way to report potholes and paving issues. I reported one in my neighborhood and it was filled the next day.

Great question. There are usually 3 or 4 different operators when I call. I think they have my phone number. I usually don't give my name. They definitely have my email address as I have reported 50+ dead deer online.

I mailed them a holiday card last year to thank them for their efforts.

I call if:

The animal is hurt and I need to go euthanize it. Just to paper trail incase someone sees a guy shooting a deer in a ditch out of season.

Or

It was a perfect kill and I'm going to pull the back straps out. ( very rare)

They are not picking up dead deer in Iowa if you call them. Not sure who you would call but I go past 5 or more every day this time of year on my 20 mile drive to work. They are everywhere.
The sheriff. Infante in Dallas County. He is good about getting them removed or just getting you a roadkill tag if you want the animal.

This is correct. I found a dead deer in my back yard a few weeks ago, and neither the DNR or county would come and remove it. A local wildlife dude told me he'd do it for $300. I had my nephew/local contractor come and pick it up, and I don't know what they did with it, nor do I care.

I think they turn the dead deer into chicken feed in some states.

Win-win.

I've reported an injured doe on the side of the road, because I didn't want it getting up and causing another accident. Probably should have asked for a salvage tag and filled my freezer with whatever left in her was good.

I just drove by a grassy median that had a dead deer on it.

I reported it last week and it was removed.

I reported a still alive deer once that looked like it had been paralyzed in it's hind legs. I am curious if the police could do anything.
