Do you still live in Iowa?

Speaking of Oregon, Josh Rhogan just joined the OSU wrestling staff under Chris Pendleton.

I've travelled a fair amount, in and outside the U.S., but only lived in four places.

Atlantic, IA -- born and raised - hard to beat small town IA for a great place to raise a family
Denver, CO -- been home since graduating h.s., LOVE the mtns, used to love the city
Missoula, MT -- part of my meandering educational pursuit was spent there at UM
Mendoza, Argentina -- been home for 22 years but just recently moved there, my last move

Love it. I want to move to Costa Rica! Don’t think Mrs.Z is all that cracked up about it!

Does Argentina allow you to purchase or is it a long term lease?

Yes, still live in Iowa
Why, because I love the rural life. I will visit the city, but I'm not made for city life. Taking a cruise on the gravel roads in the evening is my favorite way to unwind from the workday and it's a great place to raise kids.

I drive to Portland to see music or friends but really enjoy spending time here in Lane county. Euge

I’m about 90 miles south of Portland.

I like Des Moines. If I were to move back to Iowa, West Des Moines or other metro western suburbs would probably be my choice.
so, you're close to the most northern In-N-Out burger place so far...

we went to Portland last summer for a wedding...well, Portland to Depoe Bay to Eugene and back to Portland...stayed between Eugene and Portland one night...kids loved that In N Out was there.

That’s a nice loop. You guys made a circle around some of the best Pinot Noir vineyards in the world.

It sounds like In N Out is coming to Eugene. Popeye’s too.

Here’s a crazy example of the local sunstone.
Thats sweet. Here in Iowa we hunt for geodes, deer sheds, arrowheads and morels :).

Took the fam to Crater of Diamonds this year for fun; kids still at the age they could dream big of finding a diamond and I dont think they minded the over commercialization of it. Also enjoy the various gold shows on Discovery channel with them.

I've never made been to PNW (not counting NorCal), but this would be a fun thing to do up that way

I'm in PNW (Seattle).

Outside of politics, cost of living, homelessness, and traffic I love it. Lol

I come back to Iowa quite a bit and would never rule out moving back one day.

I like rural life, too. But I’m partial to hills and trees.

A friend from northern Wisconsin came to visit and I took him on my favorite back road to the nearest town. (High Pass Rd) Cloud berries were in season. We coasted around a bend and interrupted the lunch break of the biggest black bear my friend had ever seen.

Cougars and bobcat often turned up on the neighbor’s webcam. Kitties have to stay in at night.

I love hunting morels. They grow out here but chanterelles are most prevalent and there are many culinary as well as “blue,” varieties growing most everywhere.

I’ve been hitting the coast most every weekend this winter chasing pics, mussels, crabs, agates, nodules, and geode like formations.

I live in far NE Iowa and love the gravel cruises as well. Only difference is it is all hills and woods here, not the flat crop ground that makes up most of Iowa. I am only 10 minutes from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Mississippi. Best part of rural Iowa in my opinion.

I think you’re prolly right. It’s nice country in that corner of the state.

Iowa majority of my life. Missouri for 6 years. Live in Washington, small city 30 miles south of Iowa City. From the small town of Letts IA. Have lived in Iowa Falls and Underwood. Lived in Warrensburg Mo and Maryville, Mo for a bit. Washington is a great community to raise a family and short drive to IC for duals and games. I like to travel. Been to most states. Been to Costa Rica, Jamaica, Dominican. Favorite place I’ve been Maui Hawaii. Really like Jamaica too. Going to Bahamas this year. Favorite yearly trip is D1’s. I go every year. Always a guys trip.

Have lived in Cali, Illinois, Idaho, Az, Nebby, Missouri and Iowa. It’s between Az and Iowa as my favorites for different reasons. Have good memories of all of them.
Took the family on vacation to visit my uncle in Tucson in the fall of 2020. Loved it out there. We spent a 4 days in Tucson and a 4 days in Scottsdale. First words my kids said when we got home is we need to go back to Arizona again soon. I could get used to living there for sure!

Tucson was home, off and on, for 20+ years. Great place to live from Oct-April. I like living in IC because of the small college town atmosphere...enough stuff to keep you busy around here but it doesn't take a 30-45 mins to get everywhere because of traffic. Scottsdale is swankier...PHX area is a lot bigger but fairly convenient to get around.

That is beautiful area you live in. I spend time in Northern Minnesota every summer, with a few shorter stays throughout the year. Love the time I spend up north and the black bear population is having a strong resurgence in the area. Years ago, I spent 8 weeks upstate New York in the Adirondacks. That was just amazing and would love to get back there with the family someday. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with nice rolling hills, decent timber, lots of wildlife. It's very nice countryside and lots of good down to earth people. I don't have to travel very far north/northeast and it is all pretty much flat cropland. I honestly don't know why anyone would want to live where it's so flat, but it's still Iowa so I'm not going to knock it.

We went in mid October, which he said was just moving into cooler weather. It was still 100 degrees by mid day when we were there. We did all our off roading early in the morning each day and would be back by lunchtime to cool off in the pool. We stayed at a brand new Great Wolf Lodge in Scottsdale. It was overlooking a baseball complex with games every night and it was irrigated all around so it was like a lush green paradise to be honest. I actually thought both Tucson and Scottsdale were fairly easy to get around in, but Phoenix is huge like you said.

Without residency, not sure. With residency, no problem. Basically, you need legal standing.

However, the bureaucracy/paperwork/requirements are OUTRAGEOUS!!! It should have taken me 2-3 weeks to get all of the required paperwork to apply for residency, but it's taken 4 months! Nothing is simple, quick and easy in third world countries. In the end, though, it's worth it. :):)

What brought you to Mendoza?
Thanks for asking. First two years, mountaineering -- highest mountain outside of Asia is here (Mt. Aconcagua). Next two years did academic studies in neighboring Chile. For last 18 years I've been doing humanitarian projects in Argentina, traveling there every year for 2-3 months. Mendoza has always been home here, due to the nearby mountains, the wine, the relaxed lifestyle, the beautiful people and culture, etc. etc.

I have great memories of playing in pick-up football games in Green Lake Park on the weekends (lived four months in Seattle, in 1983). Before the negative stuff that you mentioned.
