No. It's rather silly that we don't we just... don't. Can't explain or defend it.

I should say it more with the kids. It's awkward because of how I was raised. I do at least have little goodnight songs for each of them every night, so it's a step in the right direction.

To give @Doodads and Hoohah credit I have started to stay it everytime to those I do (as much as possible), regardless if they say it back.

^^^^^^Me and all the boys in my life and tell all the no pic ladies love them except my youngest daughter that’s a real pain in the a$$. Don’t get along real well and leave it to the wife to do that stuff. Not a fan of people I bend over backwards for then get crapped on.

Your kids are young enough that you sing them a song at bedtime?

Dude, tell them you love them TONIGHT.

The longer you wait the harder it will be.

NOW is the perfect time to start.

Just because you were raised without it being said much, doesn't mean you have to raise your kids the same.

This question got me thinking. I went to school in very rural Iowa. There was 17 kids in my Junior class. I am the only one with both parents still alive. 4 of the 17 classmates are gone.
Consolidated with another school my SR. year. Graduating class of 53. I do believe there is only one other classmate with both parents alive and they are divorced.

Our family didn't say it often when we were growing up. There was never any doubt of the love but it wasn't verbalized. My wife's family was just the opposite and that became the norm in our household.

My parents are both deceased. I am forever grateful that the last words my mom and I said to each other was I love you.

The 16yo still gets his song. As enthusiastically as a 16yo does anything, haha. You're not wrong though.

Don’t say it much with my parents, brother and sister. Or my remaining grandma for that matter but we all know it is implied.
It’s different with my family though. I tell the wife and kid every day. Waiting for the day the kid says it back though (he’s 17 months).
My 21 month old says “I know!” Better than nothing I suppose.
