If we wish a repeat of 1930s nazi germany, then yes, we are on the right track. The only problem with this, is that we are weakening the country and China will take over whatever xi wishes.
Just wanted to do a poll and didn’t want to make it inflammatory.
You can post a poll on almost anything. The results would be the same. 70/30ish

It's hard to be on the right track when we're off the rails. It's just a matter of time before this administration starts ignoring the courts.
Getting there, but not yet. We're doing the right things to get closer to on track, but we aren't there.
Phase 1 is clean up waste and clean up the border, but those 2 things aren't likely to get the country back to bringing in more revenue than it spends. It's going to take more cuts, followed by focus on driving revenue (which may even include tax increases, which could be OK AFTER we trim the fat).
We did the right thing by electing a conservative government for this portion of the job.

Do you honestly believe the MAGA wing of the GOP is made up of conservatives? The previous administration surely wasn't.
Nothing says conservative like jacking up the debt limit 4 trillion, golfing in Florida every weekend on tax payers dime and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to parade around sporting events.

The budget proposal Trump just put out adds to the debt significantly. You should make your way back to reality with the rest of us.
The upper class and corporations need more tax cuts. That will set everything right.
I love how DOGE brags about "saving" $25k, then Trump blows several times that amount in fuel costs alone to do passes at NASCAR events with Air force one.

Congress needs to take back whatever authority it can after ceding power to the executive branch in a massive way since the 1960's.
Spending continues to spiral alarmingly out of control. and we even have politicians organizing protests over attempts to cut spending. Some of those same politicians are shamelessly spewing blatant lies, and people actually believe them.
Our Senators and Representatives are amassing wealth in the 10's of millions on an annual salary of less than $200k.
Our civil rights are being trampled in the name of "national security" because people put all their trust in the almighty federal government, and refuse to believe there any effect on them.

There is a lot of sound and fury out there which has a decidedly wrong track feel to it, but the smoke needs to clear at least a bit.

In my lifetime, what’s going on around me seems unreal and contrary to how I think the country needs to be run. The past 40 years in review, has been a huge money/power grab by the wealthy . ALEC was a well run operation and it has sold its ideas to the very folks it is stealing money and rights from.
Those two episodes you mention have always been a terrible stain on America. I am just glad the families of many current Americans like myself were not even in this country at those times. The episodes you speak of were perpetrated by WASPish Americans who were only a few generations removed from the original founders. The original peoples from Europe were of course white people who used their religious ideas of God giving them the power to establish and take what they needed for their livlihoods. Hense, the stealing of North America. Those actions were done very badly.
But these actions today are also very bad, firing people for no cause, the tremendous amount of lying to start these purges and then to justify them by lying about waste, fraud, and abuse of major proportions while showing no evidence. Trump will sell out the US to get deals with putin and oligarchs and rich Saudis. I think if not stopped this admin will bring dark or at least much darker days.
If a lot of people who depend on social safety nets in this country have dire outcomes and if a lot of people overseas die or are harmed because the US is not supplying aid and medicines then it is also a very grave account like the two you mentioned.

I have actually gotten to the point I realize a lot of the tech bros are right….this country needs a full reset. It is what is born after where I believe we differ, I’m hoping for at least a portion of the country to rise and build itself back as a more truly western democracy in the style of Europe.
These cuts are hardly a drop in the bucket compared to what really needs to happen to get the debt under control.
Maybe this will spawn real conversations about where we are headed.
But I doubt it.
