Dochterman says that once a couple QBs hit the Portal Iowa will be all over them (Brendan Sullivan visiting May 7)

No, actually all recruits are signed off on by the head coach, KF is no different.

Sure he delegates some recruiting. But the final say on every player is his.

It's funny how people aren't willing to credit KF for the same things they blame him for.

The credit for every recruit that has ever turned into a good player at Iowa goes to KF. Just like he is to blame for every recruit that was a bust. He structures his recruiting strategies and delegations. Even if KF 100% delegates offensive recruiting to TL, and 100% uses Lester's suggestions, then the credit and blame go to KF for having done so
Why are you so worried about credit? Your obsession over whether Kirk gets credit for something is nothing short of weird. This ain't rocket science. What Kirk and Brian showed over the last several years was that they hadn't a clue as to how to build and run a modern college offense. Now that Brian is gone, the best thing that Kirk could do is defer most major decisions regarding the broken offense to the guy he hired to fix it. To not do so would be complete management malpractice. If the offense gets better, Kirk should be applauded for hiring Lester and providing him with the latitude to build what he and Brian proved they could not. If the offense continues to be mired in muck, then he should be roundly criticized for not making the hires and changes necessary to fix the mess that is Iowa's offense.

Perfect example of this was Josey Jewel. KF admits he couldn't see it when looking at tape, but Reese was adamant that Josey would be an impact player at Iowa. KF kept telling him no....finally, on signing day, Reese made one last push and KF relented. The rest, as they say, is history.
Good decision by Kirk on that one

5 Star recruit that was on Washington for a time before transferring. Seems to have pretty nice delivery and is able to throw it places where the defender can't get. Not the most mobile, but 247Sports has his pocket presence and ability outside the pocket rated very high. He would work well with a Lester offense.

#17 overall prospect coming out of high school

Prolly wants to start for a school right away. He did not look like he would beat out a healthy Cade when he was at Washington or Cal poly. Could be a future QB at iowa but I don’t see him wanting to sit. That’s why he went down to Cal poly in first place to start and get noticed. He will go where he can be the starter. Even if it’s not a big time school. IMO

If it's Kirk and Brian, why isn't it Kirk and Tim? Before that, it was Kirk and Ken then Kirk and Greg. Kirk delegates to his coordinators, but sets the parameters.

actually it was my wife Margaret's idea and I agreed and posted it here ;)
Well she is a very knowledgeable hawk fan and it makes sense. Lester in four years might not get the job as there could be a hot younger coach on the market. But Phil P apprenticed for Norm and he learned and evolved into a top 5 DC. So there is no reason to believe that Wallace is not on that same trajectory if he can wait.

Do you think Phil and Wallace have talked about this as a plan? Maybe Phil wants to coach 6 more years and maybe Wallace should go be a DC for a few years himself and get that on his resume.

But the wildcard is always the new head coach who may want a different kind of defense, more aggressive, more blitzing which means more man to man.

Could see new entries in the portal till Thursday...

If a player wants to transfer in either window, they must inform their compliance administration officer at their current school. Their job is to process the application into the database within 48 hours. A student’s contact information, as well as academic and athletic history, is uploaded to the portal, where coaches can view it. Students must enter the portal within the clarified timeframe. However, once players are in the portal, they can transfer at any time. It is a popular misconception that players must transfer within the transfer portal window period.

Maybe right probably doesn't beat healthy Cade but Cade hasn't been healthy since Michigan

Any Coach that comes in and wants to change the Iowa defensive scheme should not be hired in the first place

Might have to move Max White back to QB. Anyone else on the team play QB in high school? Lester might have to pull a Phil Suess.
Hayden Fry, a former QB, picked Phil Suess out of the dregs left by Bob Commings, whose son was a QB . . .

Suess was a lefty who had been a 5th team defensive back until Fry arrived and started looking for a QB. He found Suess. The kid did an admirable job in Fry's first season. Suess, from Des Moines, proved to be an accurate passer with at least adequate mobility. He ran Fry's offense with great precision on timing routes. The ball was usually in the air before the receiver made his final break.

Anyway, if Iowa could find a Phil Suess to run Lester's offense, the Hawkeyes would have a great shot at the new 12-team playoffs. Yes, sir, I'd take another Suess in a heartbeat.

I agree that they had to tell their school by yesterday... but the school still has 48 hours after that. David Eickholt also mentioned it on a recent podcast. So the fat lady has not sung yet.

More tweets saying same thing...

they should have dropped Deac and hustled the portal on Jan 2nd, 2024.
This. Had a chance to get Oregon’s Ty Thompson but wouldn’t commit to making him the starter so he cancelled his visit and went to Tulane. For some reason, Iowa isn’t very good at this offensive thing. Iowa playing checkers while other teams playing chess.

I remember specifically Cory brada from the Hawkeye of the storm 2 weeks ago saying he had spoken to people in Lincoln kienholz “camp” and they said he would transfer out (not to iowa but was going to transfer from OSU) so that’s another “insider” who either made stuff up or got terrible information… it’s fun to talk about who we might go for in the portal, but until someone schedules a visit, no one knows crap…

Going into a Season with only 3 QBs 1 of which has not even stepped on Campus and one that needs a walker would be such an Iowa thing while carrying 25 DEs on the roster
Crazy that unless Cade is prime Cade (if that’s even possible) OSU has 5 QBs on their roster better than any on Iowas… how nuts is that? But I guess if they are dumb enough t to stay maybe we don’t want them??? Never mind yes, yes we do…

First of all, how do we know any of that is true. Other than he decided not to visit.

Second, why would they guarantee him the starting job? There is a much more accomplished (injured) QB on campus. They couldn’t guarantee him the job. That would be stupid.
