I am not sure what is more idiotic, only letting 3100 people into an outdoor stadium of 14,600 or not offering any tickets to the general public so parents could purchase them.

Actually, it’s the ticket sales

Friends of ours had their freshman daughter qualify on a relay and they cant get tickets.

We played soccer in Moline today and they required all fans where masks although we are outside and my chair is 25 feet from the nearest person. Stupid.

Behind every decision like this is a Democrat. The athletes should boycott the event. 5 seconds before the event starts, just walk off the track.
No, a sensible solution would be to offer a window of attendance to parents depending on when their kid is running. If my kid is running, I don't need to see 11 heats of the college women's 100m prelims. I just want to see my kid run, then I'm happy to leave. Btw, I am a big track fan, and I've attended the Drake Relays many times for complete multiple days. But I get that it's a pandemic and other parents want to see their kid run. I'm happy to leave so someone else can come in.
There has to be a way to do it.
How about they estimate when the kid will be running, and they issue a color coded wristband that is only good for that hour window. If the kid is in multiple events, parents get multiple wristbands. You would have to issue them through the school, but it would work.

80% of the state’s 4x100 teams seem to qualify for drake. Seemed to be a way to build crowds.
The 3,000 is way beyond dumb. People go in and out depending on events all day at drake. They could easily allow 8,000 and have enough spacing.

If it’s for the 4x100, you can tell them to quit bragging.
Stupid parents not realizing they are just being milked for their ticket money. COVID seating might be doing them a favor.

Not feeling sorry for Drake taking heat over not allowing parents. They created this cash grab that this year they cannot support.

Who gives a shite. If I was Drake, I would say f off to h.s. athletes, coaches, students. The Olympics are right around the corner. Putting those athletes in danger is more important.

Another example of parents making h.s. sports a priority over health/life.

Edit: ever heard of state championships? Bunch of parents being bad role models

Science.

SEC will have full stadiums this fall. Everybody else will have their thumb up their ass. Nothing will ever be good enough for the control freaks.

A moderate take on the subject? What a breath of fresh air. Instead you have the same 5 jackholes making it political over masks.

LOL. You don't have any athletic children.

No need to be bitter about it.

Jeeebus...the tickets were sold to buyers last year! Those folks who decided to “keep them” did...Drake offered its relay ticket holders the same option Iowa offered its FB ticket holders. It’s a fair situation although you may not agree.
The 3100 capacity is what it is. I am sure the businesses by Drake were hoping for better, too. These are the times we live in.

Why not let anybody with vaccine in?

the “times” we live in is a chicken shit solution. Science says it’s damn near impossible to get Covid outside and surface contact.

I hope the colleges that practice unscientific fear Fry financially.

it needs to stop.

So you are of the mind that no tickets should have been offered to the parents of the athletes. You know, the people that will be driving their kids hours down to Des Moines then having to find somewhere to spend 4-8 hours while their child competes?

Now combine that with the fact that there is zero reason to limit capacity in that manner to an outdoor event where you are requiring masks.

Specifically how are parents making HS sports a priority over health/life here?

The sensible people realize that the chances of contracting COVID when outdoors and wearing a mask are infinitely small. Unfortunately this is when many people decide that “science” no longer fits the narrative

We should ask him.

Oh, wait........

I guess Covid wasn't ALL bad.
300,000,000 people need to be governed based on isolated cases.

how was his weight?
Vitamin D?
He knew the risks.

I think the 300,000,000 should be able to move forward.

Sorry....but you think Drake Relats should reneg on their folks who but tickets for the Relays every year? Hey, you caught a bad break but Drake is doing the right thing here. And regardless of what you may think, there is a limit on crowds. Get the phuque over it. There are other folks who deserve consideration, too.

So dumb and I expect this to be one of the last overreactions to COVID as everything else opens up....half the state has received at least one dose - most importantly all high-risk who wanted a vaccine have received it.. No reason not to allow a full stadium at this point - make people wear a mask. Everyone is aware of the risk of COVID and attending the Drake relays acknowledging the risk.........

This post makes a lot of sense coming from you. No science or rational thought.
