Cobe and Glazier got all the press for their transfer to SDSU, but Drake Rhodes is putting together an excellent season for them. Just took fifth at CKLV, beating Garvin in the 5th place match. He has tons of wins over ranked wrestlers already, some by bonus. He looks like a surefire NQ, and someone who can push for the stand at some point in the next three years. Very cool to see and I thought he deserved a shout out!

Happy to see him have success. He has always had the talent, just was stuck down on the depth chart behind quality guys.
Yep, don't blame him for transferring. He was a quality wrestler stuck behind one of the deepest weights on the Hawks roster talent wise. Good to see him get a chance somewhere else that he wasn't going to get at Iowa.

I see Glazier was beat 8-2 by northwestern guy. Good move getting Buchanan.

I'm not going to party on our former guys. None of them deserve it and from what I know, all good dudes who are taking their shot elsewhere and I still wish them good luck and will root for them. But I am reminded of all those folks who partied on Iowa during the exodus and gleefully hinted of internal beefs because of said transfers. The season's not done and we still need to get Teemer back but "buh gawd, I like our guys."

I’m not partying on anyone. Just stating a fact that Tom knew what he was doing when was searching for a 197, even though he knew Glazier was coming back, and Buchanan is wrestling better than he ever has. I hope Glazier AA’s this year, as long as he doesn’t upset Buchanan. At the UNI meet, while his opponent was warming up hard, Zach was laying on the side of the mat the whole time surfing his phone. Just not sure he has the same motivation and intensity he had under Brands, in the Iowa room last year, but at least he’s in a lineup and not riding pine.

Should have made it clear that this was “in general” reply and not aimed at you.

I don’t sense anyone is against these guys. Not at all. There was however an undercurrent that said they were done wrong, they made a good choice, and would flourish under perceived “better coaches.” Hasn’t been the case—so far.

I really like Glazier and hope he does well for his school, but Buchanan is a next level beast getting ready for a title run.

These guys are fully aware that Iowa and the other top contending teams are looking for title contenders at every weight and transfers are a major part of this especially with the addition of NIL! Im not a huge fan of the NIL but I am a fan of the portal. Athletes should be able to make moves to other schools, coaches, facilities and atmospheres to try achieve their own goals.

College sports is evolving and if you don’t try to stay ahead or at least equal with the curve you’re going to get left behind - quickly and painfully.

I was just thinking this. Drake rhodes has been doing amazing since he left to sdsu. Would be suprised to see him wrestling for all american

He’s doing well, but 165 is a tough weight.
165 cleared out quite a bit from last year. Right now 5-10 according to intermat rankings are Julian Ramirez, Hunter Garvin (Rhodes just beat), Sammy Sasso, MJ Gaitan, Cam Amine, Will Miller. There are some tough guys in the 11-33 range (including Sparks and Bubba Wilson who have already beat Rhodes) but this is about as easy of a year to AA at 165 as we have seen in quite awhile. In my mind you have 2 surefire AA's in Mesenbrink and Caliendo, 3 likely AA's in Hall, Amine and Barraclough and then it is pretty wide open.
