Stirtz obviously, but rumors that he's gotten some serious NIL offers already. Then there are three or four others you'd want too. Then hit the portal for the rest of the team.

If Macollum comes Stirtz is right behind. In no other system would he average 40 minutes a game. His pt guards along with defense have always been the keys to his teams. He would bring Banks, Manyewu and Howard plus guessing Combs. Solid core of players that know exactly what he wants out of his system.

Yeah I didn’t think about him transferring somewhere else. I wouldn’t be surprised if his agent is on the phone as we speak.

Please note that Stirtz didn't have ONE D-1 offer coming out of high school. There are over 360 teams, and NOT ONE offered Stirtz. Now he's got some big NIL offers? LOL

Stirtz strikes me as a guy who would stick with his coach, the coach who has helped him reach these lofty, totally unexpected heights.

Drake beating Mizzou is one thing, but that they did it with four D-II starters and a castoff from Wyoming . . . and many of you people keep insisting it's all about the players. Tony Perkins and all those athletes from Missouri are sitting at home now, while the band of nobodies from Drake are headed for the Sweet Sixteen with one more win.

Sure, you always want talent, but never underestimate what a real coach can do when he emphasizes defense and blocking out and hustling on the boards. You saw it yesterday. I'd be thrilled to see it in Iowa City for many years to come.

If McCollum stays at Drake Stirtz will as well. Some of you guys just don’t understand. And if He goes to Iowa Stirtz is following. Doesn’t matter if someone offers him a bigger bag. If you haven’t figured that out by now you haven’t been paying attention.

Stirtz is an obvious no brainer take for basically any team in the country. He's a pro.

Beyond him I would take Banks and Howard for sure and wouldn't have a problem with bringing in Manyawu.
If Beth can lock him up, I’d be good if he brought every player with him that has eligibility left. They’re all collectively better than any player we had that went to the portal.

Spot on.

Some folks are under the delusion that you can’t compete unless you have a roster full of high priced players. Ask Texas A&M fans how that worked out for their football team a couple of years ago. Did Bo Ryan field teams full of 5* recruits? What about Bob Knight? With all the success he had, did he have all the “best” players? No.

The same teams that got all the blue chip players before are still going to get them now. There are PLENTY of D-1 quality players out there that can field a competitive team….if you have the right coach.

McCollum wins playing smart, tough, fundamentally sound basketball. You don’t need a team of million dollar athletes to do that.

So Manyewu came frome Wyoming and Banks from Juco?

I find that particularly interesting because that's proof that McCollum was able to go out and find good players that didn't require a lot of money.

In theory Fran could have found them too but that's not the sort of player that he's interested in.

I honestly think Dix is probably the only player on Iowa that would have started at Drake and Stirtz is the only player at Drake that Fran would have allowed to play at Iowa.

Two completely different views on the game and two completely different sets of results.

Correct on Banks and Manyewu but both are KC kids so he had been recruiting both to NW MO St while he was there. Combs is a pretty solid guard as well that is a Missouri kid that was at Wyoming as well. He wanted him at NW as well so there was always a connection.

I feel like Tavion Banks was meant to be a Hawkeye. Especially if he's willing to bleach his hair for his final season.

I hope whoever from Drake wants to, they get an adequate NIL - which should not be hard since before that had next to nothing (?). That will help build the culture? But I hope NIL doesn't cloud or create any chemistry issues. Do not want any taste of what happened at Clown U this year.

Come on man, Dix, Sandfort and Freeman all would have started at Drake.

I don't know enough about their team to know anything past the obvious superstars. One thing I am 100% confident in is that BMac will be able to bring who he wants and who he thinks can thrive in the B1G. I'm also pretty confident that he'll be able to keep any current Hawkeyes that he wants if they are the least bit interested in staying.

Good times for Iowa MBB at long last...

All hypothetical, of course, but unless those three were coached up by BMac from Day 1 (making them all completely different players), they might have had a hard time cracking the starting lineup. On the surface, it's hard to picture that 3/5 of a pretty crummy defense-optional team would be no-brainer starters for a pretty darn good, disciplined defense-minded team.
