I would like to congratulate Drew for the wonderful year he's had! I, for one, thought the job was Aron Blom's, but Drew stepped up when he got his shot, and never looked back.
As a ST coach, I find his achievement particularly commendable, because his leg strength is rare for a freshman. His mechanics improved considerably since spring, as his swing is very consistent now. Having watched him live in warmups before/during games, I would say that he's capable of hitting a 60 yard field goal with about 50% completion rate (the failures aren't from lack of distance, but of accuracy). His kickoffs are good, and if he can increase his hang-time to consistently hit 4 seconds while maintaining his distance, they will become exceptional.
I met his folks in person last week, and they came across as very nice people. They have an over-achieving bunch of kids, in all sorts of sports. Both of his parents have Iowa roots, as both attended ISU. I did not hold that against them, however, lol.
