Duke paid Zion's parents.

Ever sit near the Duke bench? Coach K is like Izzo or Knight with impulse control. He sits like a little old church lady while he rides the refs from buzzer to buzzer.

Wow.....is that information from the FBI investigation?

No it's not part of FBI thing. He dropped his original agency after a short amount of time for a new one. So the first one is suing him. As such, they have the right to discovery. So he likely has to answer the question truthfully. I would assume that the agent wouldn't ask it if they didn't know what the answer would be, and that they likely already have proof of whatever payments took place. If anyone is surprised by this, they shouldn't be. I assume that the top schools are all paying players in some fashion. Going to name and likeness only will reduce the income for some of these guys, and make the income taxable.

Coach K is one of the biggest frauds out there. He’s been cheating for years. So many of these guys can’t coach at all without the best players. They made tons of money off of the players they never deserved.

Stop.

Don't get me wrong, I've lost a lot of respect for Coach K if these allegations are indeed true, but to suggest he is a bumbling oaf of a coach is ridiculous. There's a reason Jerry Colangelo wanted Coach K to coach the U.S.A Olympic teams and why U.S.A basketball started winning gold again after the 2004 embarrassment.

There were plenty of eyebrows raised
when Lew Alcindor went from a NY
high school to UCLA to play basketball
for Coach John Wooden.

Many observers said that Lew did not
go from New York to California due to
the climate. There was strong evidence
that boosters from UCLA paid money
to the parents of Lew Alcindor.

Bottom Line: Nobody messed with
Saint John Wooden.

Lute, Google Sam Gilbert.

Coach K and Bill Self join Cal as flesh peddlers.
Sick of K being anoited as clean when he has been as dirty as anyone.

Notice the word "alleges" before every charge. And "without presenting evidence" after some. This is a lawsuit over contracts and money...you can "allege" anything you wish. Proves nothing.

I would like to see how Coach K (and other Blue Blood coaches)would do with "average" talent. Give him Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, or Western Kentucky - I'm guessing he is no better than anyone else.

The best coaches do "more with less".

Not a fan of Coach K. I hope they drop the hammer on them (and Kansas).

Proves nothing? Sure. But few people allege things so publicly unless there's some smoke behind the fire.

I once had a conversation with Bill
Madlock 3B of Chicago Cubs who
won a N.L. Battling Title.

I asked him how tough is it to manage
MLB. He used as an example the
Cincy Reds and the Big Red Machine
under Sparky Anderson with Johnny
Bench and Pete. Madlock said that his
grandmother could have managed that
team and won.

i appreciate the effort but if your evidence of Coach Ks coaching prowess is rolling the ball out to the best players in the world then I’ve got to issue a stop on your behalf.

You kidding? People allege and accuse all the time with nothing more than a hunch or a wish. Politics and sports being two of the best at it

So I read the article - it said the agent talked to some guy in Louisiana who talked to the folks (of course at the very end). Not exactly sure where that implicates Duke or K

2013 Big Ten bball tournament, Chicago, Iowa had just lost to MSU. Went to the bars after, and shared a table with some high-level MSU boosters as it was packed. They bought us beers for the next 2 hours, admitting the officials sucked for Iowa. One thing led to another, and a Hoiberg discussion began. They said Chris Allen relaying back to Lucious all the side money he was receiving at ISU, was the deciding factor in Lucious transferring there. The response was along the lines of, "MSU boosters are complaining about this?", and they laughed, and said "thought we were talking Hoiberg".

To avoid embarrassment all around, I suspect this lawsuit will get settled out of court so St. K won't have to testify under oath.

Since cheating in college hoops has run rampant for over 60 years now, I don't know how anyone could be surprised by this. I don't know the solution on how to fix it other than blow up the current version of college sports. And Covid 19 may in strange way become the catalyst.

If your argument is Duke would not be a powerhouse without super star players, I agree with you.

However, the idea that you can just roll out talent and win big is false. You can see this illustrated within our own state. Fred Hoiberg handed Steve Prohm a collection of guys who were Top 10 talent. Neither Prohm or Hoiberg did better than 6 losses in conference play. And outside of a Sweet 16 run that included wins vs. Iona and Little Rock, Prohm hasn't done shit in the tournament. Yet, Iowa State continues to have players get drafted. Halliburton could be a Top 10 pick this year.

When Raveling was at Iowa, he brought in a bunch of talent. Enter Tom Davis and Iowa earns a #1 ranking at one point in the (I believe) '88-'89 season and should have gone to a Final Four.

So, yes, talent matters. But so does coaching.

Spot on. You cannot consistently get to FFs and win titles without tremendous coaching ability. Of course its easier to win with great talent and easier to get great talent if you cheat but it still takes very good coaching to win like Self and the Bishop of Duke.

That Iowa team was #1 in 86-87, Dr. Davis' first year at Iowa. That was the second time in six years the officiating targeted Iowa to prevent us from winning a Big Ten Title (1981 was the other).

George, who is great guy and truly one of the nicest people I've ever known, inherited outstanding talent, brought in better talent and lost both the NCAA games for which Iowa qualified during his tenure. Blew a 20ish point half time lead against Joe Klein's Arkansas team one year.

If coaching made more difference than talent then Self, Coach K, Sean Miller and many others would not be cheating to acquire such talent. They are frauds and make millions off of it.

Talent and a collection of talent is by far the biggest factor in success and cheating proves that.

George was a cheat, plain and simple. He was just too dumb to coach the great players he was able to buy.

And LOL at you and your conspiracy theories about the refs.

Tell me more about Kiki Vandeweghe and Detlef Schrempf and their "Dunking for Dallas" days. lmao

That's preposterous. I would be in a position to know if that really happened.

But more importantly, the NCAA was up our ass from 85-88 doing a three year investigation, some of which was surreptitious, in the wake of Devon Mitchell and Ronnie Harmon's relationships with bookies and agents. Everything was audited, witnesses examined and documents, including long distance phone records and even a Western Union administrative subpoena-to which Iowa consented. An army of lawyers were involved because everyone had to lawyer up.

Nothing untoward was ever found, much less payments to players which is pretty easy to discover if one is actually looking and the NCAA was looking with great enthusiasm and persistence and for a very long time.

I'm old enough to remember Connie Hawkins and read his book "Foul". This kind of shit has been going on for many many years.

I know George wasn't a good coach but didn't know he was a cheat. Is this just your opinion or do you have some type of documentation?
