Duke paid Zion's parents.

Stop.

Don't get me wrong, I've lost a lot of respect for Coach K if these allegations are indeed true, but to suggest he is a bumbling oaf of a coach is ridiculous. There's a reason Jerry Colangelo wanted Coach K to coach the U.S.A Olympic teams and why U.S.A basketball started winning gold again after the 2004 embarrassment.
Not necessarily going to disagree with you but you do have to wonder why is assistants and former players aren’t that successful if they are using his strategies.

I really liked watching those Raveling teams and early Tom Davis teams. That UNLV game was a tough one.

Bob Knight was a log of things but not a cheater. He hated cheating and cheaters like Joe B. Hall and Lou Henson. I wonder how Knight would feel about his protégé coach K now if his mind was not scrambled. Then again the paying of players at Duke has been known for a while, so maybe that was one reason Knight was getting bitter towards K before the senility kicked in.

Wooden started at UCLA in the late 40s. He did not start winning big until the 60's so something changed. Probably Sam Gilbert is what changed.

Spot on. You cannot consistently get to FFs and win titles without tremendous coaching ability. Of course its easier to win with great talent and easier to get great talent if you cheat but it still takes very good coaching to win like Self and the Bishop of Duke.

That Iowa team was #1 in 86-87, Dr. Davis' first year at Iowa. That was the second time in six years the officiating targeted Iowa to prevent us from winning a Big Ten Title (1981 was the other).

George, who is great guy and truly one of the nicest people I've ever known, inherited outstanding talent, brought in better talent and lost both the NCAA games for which Iowa qualified during his tenure. Blew a 20ish point half time lead against Joe Klein's Arkansas team one year.
While talent is important to winning NCAA titles, where you are seeded is the most important thing. When you are always given the benefit of the doubt and get a top 3 seed, it's a whole lot easier. Coach K in my opinion is slightly above average as a coach, who because of his reputation gets a boat load of calls for his team.

I hate Duke and cannot stand the whining hypocritical Bishop of Duke but the prick can coach. The NCAA rule that requires Duke to always be a four seed or better and that prohibits Duke from playing more than 100 miles from their home court certainly helps; as does the rule that requires Duke to shoot no fewer than 3 times as many free throws as their opponents.

Slap on the wrist coming at you, Duke!

Watch out now!! Not Duke, or KU, but the NCAA likely to get their pound of flesh from a school like Iowa, or Wisconsin, for getting a discount on shoes at a sporting goods store. If half of what I've read is true, Self and
Coach Krazinski should be gone.

I don’t know how much Coach K “cheats.” I mean it is easy to say they all do. But Duke can also get studs who want to go there. I mean do Dabo and Nick have to pay players? I don’t know. I do know about Iowa through the years. And it happens. From Alex Karras “working” in Okoboji during a summer so no other recruiters could get to him to a bunch of football players in the 80’s coming to our fraternity Saturday night parties after home games and actually showing the white envelopes the money came in with their number on the front of it. I think it happens at about most places some are just better at it.
