$EC, Big Ten moving closer to taking their college football ball home and making billions

I like how Ohio State flies over an entire other division to play it's opponents.

I love how people spend weeks making up shit that they think is so cool, that has chance in reality
It only makes sense if they’re trying to keep division strength even by splitting all the perennial blue bloods into different divisions. Otherwise ya, OSU with the quadrangle of hate makes no sense from a regional standpoint.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the B1G doesn’t snatch up a few more teams (from ACC and B12) in north and west… and the SEC snatch up more in the south and East. Then, they have two super conferences that will likely be divided more regionally. B1G West, Central and East… SEC West, Central and East or something like that. When that day comes if you aren’t involved you are second fiddle.

I assume that in your world every single person is making the same amount in NIL, since it is the company brand that is making the money.
Lol. Wtf are you even talking about.

Without the brand if the school and big conferences these players wouldn't be making a dime on nil. It is the company brand that is making them money.

That is up to the state laws and school.

Some can, some cannot.

I am sure that the powers that be at the University of Iowa just cry themselves to sleep every night over their decision to let Caitlin rep Iowa in commercials and all the hundreds of millions of dollars of free publicity that it has generated for the school.
Nothing is free. Right now it is the wild west on these things. It shouldn't be that way and Iowa should absolutely have received more than brand recognition in that situation.

Companies sue for trademark infringement all the time.

Start wearing your company logo on social media and making money separate from your employment with them and find out how quickly that will be addressed.

Iowa and other schools pay to market their products. Popular players are huge billboards for them.

It would be stupid for Iowa to demand their players remove the their logos.

I want to know who's still watching it tbh
Me. The biggest matchups on any given weekend have never really done it for me, give me Wednesday night MACtion or CUSA kicking off at 11 am Central. Outside of Iowa I mostly just watch condensed games though.

There are salary caps in pro sports. If a kid has an agent and sets up their own ad revenue good for them.

Another take....the athletes need to sign a contract where the school gets a piece of any nil deal. School also gets a percentage of future contracts on term limited basis if they transfer. Iowa develops you and you transfer to Alabama? Yeah....Iowa gets paid. They do this already in pro soccer in Europe.

The players would have to agree to that, and there is no union… so good luck

That’s why I gave up tickets. I hate all of this. I hated it for decades before it came to fruition. I’m actually going to the Washington game…first game in 3 years. I just can’t, as a teacher, donate to kids who make more money than me, because they’re kind of good at a sport. This BS ruined my favorite thing for the first 50 years of my life.
Do you watch movies? Listen to music? Watch TV? Read books? All those people make more money than you, and a lot of them younger than you. Sounds like a you problem.

There's no salary cap in MLB and there's none in any sport about NIL.

Well, I do struggle with the fact these twattwaffles make more than me.

Yeah, but this is the opposite of what you are describing. You are painting a picture of companies that don’t want employees representing their brand outside of work.

What’s happening here is there are a few very talented individuals and a bunch of different private organizations (NIL collectives) are competing with each other to pay them the most money. I wish The Swarm could have outbid the Tennessee collective for their $8m quarterback but I’m not sure how you can legally restrict a private group from identifying which high school QB is the next big thing and giving money to him.

Like what would be the basis of the law? It’s two private groups exchanging money for services. Should we have a law that the total amount of NIL the Dallas Cowboys players receive can’t exceed the amount the Jacksonville Jaguars receive? And once the Cowboys are at the cap then we have to outlaw any additional advertising revenue they receive?

If I as an individual want to give Dak Prescott a million bucks just because I think he’s awesome, there is nothing stopping me…

I get what you are saying but people like me WANT to give these kids money. I just wish I had enough to matter. Like I’m jealous that Tennessee fans have $8m for their QB and I struggle to do more than the minimum Swarm donation. But me being jealous of it doesn’t mean the fans at Tennessee have done something illegal.

Here’s a hypothetical - I know Michael Jordan got millions just for drinking Gatorade and it seems like it worked out well for both parties. If I had the money, I could mix up my own sugar water and food coloring and call it MountainMan Ade. And I would of course want to find someone to advertise it for me. Maybe I could find some high school kid that is the #1 QB recruit and I tell him I’ll pay him $8m to drink this stuff. And my company is headquartered in Iowa and payday is Monday after every football game.

Have I done anything illegal? If the NCAA tries to stop me, what law have I broken?
