Ellingson

Haven't seen enough of Ellingson yet to determine how good he is or isn't. I have seen enough to determine that he has a good shooting stroke. Him and Uthoff have really good shots and touch.

Shooting the 3's is one thing....what has impressed me is his off the ball cuts .. wow. That is not a fluke...Ellingson has surfaced as one of the top guys coming off the bench. Good guy good for him.

Exactly. He is more than just a shooter. He can get into the lane, handle the ball, cut, play within the offense, and distribute the ball. Plus his defense wasn't bad either.

I think we need a larger sample size against a little better competition before determining how good his all around game is, I hope you are right.

sure the better the competition the harder things are ..if ..BIG IF.. the officials continue to call the rubs & moving screens this will bode well for Brady & others for that matter.

Highly doubt what? Ellingson? you obviously have blinders on or know little to nothing about basketball...the kid can flat out play. Good shooter, good handles, one of the very best cutters we've had in a long time, uncanny off the ball quickness to the basket & finishes...

Had he not had a foot injury last year .. he would have contributed.

This is why we have a coach and internet doubters have zero value. I'm sure we will hear from you the second Brady has a below avg game..nice MO to carry.

He hasn't been back to answer any questions that I had for him, but like you say, I'm sure he will be sometime down the road, because freshmen to seniors, they all have some good and some not so good games. (at least for those that only look at point totals)

Seems odd to me how someone can still find doubt after going 7 for 8 from the field and 4 for 4 from the FT line. He had a tremendous game no matter Coppin St. or not. Repeating what someone else wrote but if they continue to call the fouls this close, BE will have a hay day.

Where did you hear that he grew taller? Definitely got stronger.

I also like the backhanded compliments for Dom.

Youve always been on record as anti Uhl for some reason even though he has almost always looked good.
Ummm, no. Uhl has had many poor to lousy moments. He needs to get better, and hopefully he does. First thing he needs to do is learn how to play hard all the time. We shall see. If he doesn't, he won't play. It's about that simple.

He didn't play a combined 4 minutes or whatever it was for the 1st 2 exhibition games because Fran was saving him for a run at 1st Team All-American. That tells me Fran doesn't think he was looking all that good either.

Ells will be affected by physical play. There will be some defenders in the B!G that will push him around and get away with it. Looks like he might be a good foul shooter so those defenders might give us some points on the fouls as well.

I think a post-injury Luke Recker is a good comparison for Ellingson. He has decent size, but will never be an elite athlete that will beat the opposition with explosiveness. However, he is still athletic enough to get to, and finish, in the paint. From what we saw against Coppin State, Brady moved really well without the ball which is why I think Recker is a good comparison. Luke was a natural scorer, even after his injuries sapped his explosiveness that helped make him a McDonald's AA.

Obviously it's too early to make any lasting judgments, but it's been an encouraging start for Brady.

Haha, ok.

Agreed. Brady Ellingson reminds me of many of the guards that Bo Ryan uses at Wisconsin. Not a big time athlete by any means, but a high IQ player who can shoot and move very well without the ball. Brady understands the game and yes you can tell that even against Coppin State and Gardner Webb. Im not saying Brady will be a star player (he probably won't) but think along the lines of Josh Gasser or even Ben Brust.

I think Ellingson attacks the basket better than Gasser or Brust. On the other hand, BE has yet to prove he's the shooter Brust was on the court and he's certainly not the defender Gasser was.

I agree, but remember we are comparing a freshman Brady to what we remember Gasser and Brust were as their final senior seasons. I lived in Madison for five years and my wife's family are big Badger fans so trust me when I say Gasser and Brust were not that good as freshman. They both developed.

Where they are all similar is that they are smaller (6'2-6'3) guards who lack atheltic ability to some extent, but really understand the game. Also, although Brady is unproven, I do think his shooting skills will come close to that of Josh and Ben. I expect around 36-38% from three. We shall see.

He said "a little like Steve Alford" - dude chill out
I think Ellingson's game is a lot like Alford played--similar size, great shooter, good court awareness, knows how to move without the ball. Obviously, he hasn't proven much yet, but it will be fun to watch how much he can accomplish over the next four years.

Thought I would bump this as an example of what Dan was talking about. A player has a good game and all of the sudden he should have been playing more and we were seeing it all along.
