Probably wrong time for this post as everyone is emotional after the loss. I'm trying to do this rationally so hang with me and feel free to add your own:

QB: C-, Cade struggled and couldn't move, Stratton is a serviceable backup, Sullivan shows glimpses but needs help going forward.

RB: A, Johnson is one of the nation's best. Jaz and Moultonare solid.

WR: C-, drops and couldn't get open. Still a passing grade because I wonder how much of their struggle is due to other factors. Show glimpses and Wetjen needs to stay and get reps. Gill and Buie look okay. One more would be good.

TE: C, Lachey was absent all year, injuries were his problem. Ostrenga will be fine but under used. The biggest problem was two fold. 1- they struggled blocking at times. 2- they weren't targeted much.

OL: C, improvement from last year but pass blocking is a problem. Still had missed assignments and straight whiffs blocking.

OC: B-, we still scored more than usual but our efficiency numbers weren't great. Passing was poor. Still, I thought there was progress from last year.

DL: C+, at times we looked to get pressure with 4. At times we looked like we were getting run over. Ultimately this unit didn't move the needle for me. I was hoping for more from this whole group.

LB: B+, best overall unit outside of the running backs. Higgins gets an A by himself. Jackson was very solid. Fisher was fine. Castro regressed big time and Lutmer/Rexroth didn't look ready.

CB: C, but help... the C is essentially for Harris. TJ Hall was okay and not tested as much. I think we need to see more of the freshman as Lee struggled mightily and Nestor did not seem ready.

S: D, that might be nice. X... dude, we ALL want this to work. He's one of our highest rated recruits and was in state. He's been really bad and was benched. Schulte struggled. We had the top blown off multiple times. We just don't tackle well and couldn't cover. I'm hopeful Entringer will be one answer and I believe we have a freshman to try there.

DC: C, while it's nowhere near what we are accustom to, it's not terrible, most of the time. The words I would describe this group would be soft and inconsistent. They showed glimpses of greatness and other times where it looked awful.

K: A-, Stevens is still a weapon. He's been pretty consistent and should have been trusted to kick more.

P: B+, not Taylor yet but very solid and could pin the ball deep. Elkin needs a nod for his long snapping.

KR/PR: A+, two return TDs, Wetjen AA, averaged the most yards per return.

KT/PT: B, a few broken coverages but most of the time this group has been good.

ST: B+, still a strength of this team. Woods is a good coach.

Head Coach: C-, legend, yes. Is the game passing him by, probably. Game management/ clock management still makes all of us angry. Players seem to love him. Overall, 8 wins with this schedule was not good enough. Losing today was a very sour note.

Fire away and add your own. Just wanted to type to get it out of my system.

X has been Blake Larsen-esque in regards to expectations. X has been flat out awful. Terrible in coverage. Terrible in run support. He’s just soft as hell which anybody who saw him in high school could attest to. Huge disappointment.
Schulte has been bad for years.
Castro was an absolute liability in pass coverage and regressed horribly this season.
I’m afraid our offense is a lost cause until regime change.

The secondary looks like they need a map to find the weight room.

As others have noted, DeJean probably covered a lot of the weaknesses that were glaring this season.

Hall and Lee were afraid of getting beat and simply gave too much cushion.

Well done - have to agree with most everything you graded out/noted. I was really disappointed in this defense this season (maybe we just had been spoiled of late) and have grave concerns next season with guys like Lutmer/Rexroth/Nestor seeing the field more....

Coop didn’t make much difference vs decent teams … did he even play vs PennSt last year or was he injured as usual

That's the concern...as bad as the starters are/were, no one could take their spots.

Next year will be a fvcking disaster on most fronts.

Yours are pretty fair. I might give slightly higher grades at:

WR: I might go C+ here, as I like what I have seen from Vander Zee, Howard, Buie, Gill. Hoping they all get healthy, including Anderson. Heard good things about KJ Parker.

TE: I might go C+ here, too. We will miss Lachey, even though this was a bad year for him in stats. Think we'll miss Pascuzzi, too. Glad we still have Ostrenga and Ortwerth. We do have Gavin Hoffman as frosh now, and Johnson and Meyer from HS coming in, we'll see how quick they get to play.

OL: I would go C+, but pass blocking still needs improvement. Might need to blame that some on our run-heavy scheme and facing 9 man boxes (or more) so frequently.

OC: I will say B+, I think Lester is slowly getting us on the right path. I don't think he has outright dumped many guys (maybe Deacon Hill, a bit). Give him time, I think TL keeps making improvements.

DL: I think i go B here. They are still good, just not great.

LB: B+ is fair, maybe i let my heart say A-.
We will really miss Higgins and Jackson. I am not sure that Sharar and Rexroth ever approach that level. Fisher is out of eligibility, or am I wrong? Maybe Harrell, Montgomery, and some younger guys (Buffington, Ries, Weisskopf) can do a bit better than I fear. Word is we might have Kueter back in 2025, too.

S: I will say C-. I like Entringer. Castro made 3rd team all big ten, Schulte honorable mention. X has the talent, I doubt he bails. I trust Phil to fix the DBs.

DC: B. Certainly our D was not as great as we are used to. But, how long can you lean so hard on them?

P: I might go A-. Elkin was great, Dakin was good (already 3rd team all big ten), particularly for a frosh in a new country, taking over for one of the greats in this school at punter.

KT/PT: B+. I did not fear screw-ups by these units, did we have a couple blocked kicks, any blocked punts?

STC: i might give Woods an A-.

Head Coach: I realize many feel 8-5 is falling short this year. I probably give KF a grade of B- or B. But, I am a homer.

I think that's my concern as well. Ferentz likes to talk about the cavalry in years past... I see zero cavalry coming. I think the LBs, from what we have seen, have some major strides to make. I'm assuming Harell and Rexroth get those spots.

I have no clue what to do at corner. We always seem to have one lock down corner but I'm not sure that happens next year. My hope lays with the freshman Watson but he didn't get many more chances. It has to get fixed. Hall seems to be the best but that isn't saying much. Lee, Nestor seem to have some glaring weaknesses.

My biggest disappointment is with the defense. Based in the guys returning and the schedule I figured the D to be nails, but it just wasn't. I don't really understand why. I'd give PP and the entire defense a C-.

On offense, it was a tad better (maybe two tads), but they still lacked the ability to consistently move the chains. KJ, of course gets an A+, but the rest of the offense and TL was a C-.

Special teams were pretty terrific all season. A.

Plenty of returning starters. Lots of experience. Some injuries, but no worse than everyone else. The team should have been better.

So, all that averages out to a C, which is my grade for KF as well.

The program has gotten stale. It really needs a reboot.

very good take....would give the passing game a F. not sure how we fix that unless we get more playmakers in quickly. not being able to complete a forward pass with our running game this yr is insane.

Ummm.....obvious answer is obvious.

Kirk Ferentz is infallible and anyone who says otherwise just doesn't know football...and isn't a real fan.........and is dumb.

8-5 and a Music City Bowl berth. The textbook definition of perfection, bitches!

Like the defense this year, the complete lack of a passing game is a mystery to me. Why has it been so bad for so long? Petras was a big disappointment, of course. Hill was simply awful. Cade should have been better. Sully has some skills but not enough to get the ball down the field consistently.

We continue to bang on the WR's, but I honestly don't think they are that bad. At least there are a bunch of them that can play. It's just that they have to be wide open for the QB's to get a pass to them.

At this point, I'm not even sure a top QB could do much.

An effective passing game is complex. It takes all 11 guys working together with a good scheme. But, most other teams seem to be able it figure it out.

The Hawks just don't have it.

There were only three teams in all of college football that averaged fewer passing yards than Iowa, the three service academies. QB and OC are too high, we’ve grown too accustomed to their incompetence

That's hilarious giving the OC such a high grade. People on here ripped KOK apart, and he's much better IMO. Rewatch the clown game and seriously tell me we had a B+ OC. I know the grade is for the season, but that's just one game as an example. To me it's an easy F just for starting Cade over Sullivan and not giving the ball to Johnson multiple times inside the 5 vs the clowns. I think he's getting too much love due to following the worst offensive stretch in modern Iowa history.

Offense was saved by an AA running back. They were still terrible in the passing game.
Regression of the D was obviously more than what most of us expected. I thought there'd be some fall off but this year was several steps backward.
Kirk was still Kirk. Had to have his hand forced to do anything at the QB position.
Overall grade: C-

Overall agree with the ratings but oir DB's were probably a solid D. We really missed that big power runner yesterday. I think Johnson would have broke a couple yesterday and we really missed him on short yardage situations. Mouton just a sophomore so he could be really good next year.

I'm concerned about defense more than offense next year. Black and Craig will really be missed. Higgins is a huge loss. Two new LBers, two on the D-line and a suspect secondary.

On offense a QB who has started, decent RB talent and a lot of young WR talent returning. OL should be solid with three returners and TE good, actually better, Lachey seemed soft all year.

Agree w/most of this. QB play honestly I'm not sure how you don't give a D or even an F. Cade was clearly an F but there's so much that went wrong here not sure where to begin. Would have been interesting to have seen what could have been w/Sullivan actually being named the starter early on and developing the offense around him. The first half yesterday w/some of the RPO actually looked pretty solid. RB- clearly our best unit. A. WR is an F. There's just no way around it. And if we had anyone better on the bench they would have played. Tight end- D. Not sure what happened to tight end u this year. O line- C plus. Blocked for the 2nd best running back in the country w/absolutely no threat of the pass. And yesterday dominated a SEC d line in the run game as well. Hard to grad our pass blocking because of such poor QB and WR play. Agree on O coordinator. Without a legitimate QB or even 1 legitimate D1 receiver it's hard to grade him otherwise. Developed a helluva running scheme.

D line- C plus. Thought the interior was pretty solid but this was the weakest our d ends have been in forever. Zero pressure on QB's this year. LB- B plus. All American in Higgins and Jackson a stud as well. CB- C Minus. Not much to say. Played incredibly soft coverage most of the year. Safety- C Minus. 2-3 year starter in Schulte and hoping for a breakour year for X that just hasn't developed. D coordinator- Normally a year like this for most guys would be a minimum B but for Phil it's a C. Guys just weren't ready to play that needed to be the next man in. Was so disappointed in our game plan yesterday of having the D line not even trying to apply pressure to a 5th year SR and let him pick us apart. Special Teams - A or B. Very solid. Head coach- C. 8-5. Still doesn't realize the QB is the most important position on the team to build around. And never will.

Speaking of grades, has any player been ruled ineligible for his bowl game lately?

Kyler Fisher had an "unmet commitment," so did not play. Not sure if it was grade related.

Might be tough to know if any guy, from any team, was ineligible. Could they then just opt out?

If Sullivan was our starter all year, I think we win two more games and certainly win the game last night. He offers a lot of athleticism we have missed at that position over the last decade. He makes a lot of rookie mistakes, but also makes plays we would have been sacked many times over. People mad at Sullivan last night can’t see how great he was in comparison to what we have had the last 5 years.
