Time for Tom to go. Iowa needs to regroup and get with the times. Mediocrity has become the new standard for Iowa wrestling. Gable would have stepped aside if this was all the better he could do. How many interviews do you hear...I/we have to get to my/our offense, score more points blah blah blah. Quit talking about it, and do it! Ryan has tOSU winning, and this is what we can do with one of the top two programs in the history of college wrestling? Pathetic

Blah blah blah is right! If you think that there is a better coach out there than Tom then you haven't got a clue.

Let's not forget that the 2 teams that finished ahead of Iowa are in inarguably the 2 biggest wrestling hotbeds in the country. Being the premier programs in Pennsylvania and Ohio is HUGE!

PSU:Retherford, Nolf, Joseph, McCutcheon and Gulibon are all homegrown.

tOSU:Rodriguez, Tomasello, Jordan, Ryan, Burcher, Jordan and Moore are all homegrown.

When you can concentrate mightily on getting the best from your state and only have to compete for a couple outside guys, that is a GIANT advantage.

The state of Iowa definitely has solid wrestling, but it is solidly behind these 2.

Using that logic I give Brands credit for getting the max out of Gilman, Clark and Sorenson. Meyer has been decent as well. 197 and 285 are fill-ins with impossible tasks.

Simply put, Iowa no longer has the luxury of grabbing the best local talent and building them up. They need the Young guns pipeline and a guy or 2 from Ohio, NJ or Cali to compete!

BlackHawk, your heart is in the right place--no one (except PSU) is happy with the current state of things. I've been a vocal critic of things I think the coaches have done wrong, but I do think we've figured out the big issue that was vexing us, and it was failing to bring in top talent. That has been addressed spot-on over the past two years and will yield big results, but not for a couple more seasons. Like most on the board here, I don't see a viable replacement for Tom even if we wanted to give him the axe. But I do think it's fair to keep the heat on him--his job is to win NCAA titles, and the buck stops with him, and I'm quite sure he'd be putting major heat on any of us if roles were reversed. :)

& Tom has started to do exactly that with the last 2-3 classes.

Tom recognized that something needed to change & he has started to adjust his recruiting accordingly.

The OP's heart is in the right place, his head is firmly up his ass.

Agreed. I have made it obvious that I am as a big of a fan of the Brands Bros as it gets. The fact that they have identified the need and adapted is a true credit to them. Even though the results have been less than acceptable for Iowa fans, they have been doing as good of a job as anyone could and are visibly striving to do better!

Another big factor is going to be Dresser next door. Iowa hasn't really had to worry about being beat out on local talent other than 1 here or there from Schwab. If Dresser can make ISU a viable alternative, that makes Brands job even harder!

I respectfully disagree. Tom has shifted so much of his recruiting out of Iowa now, I think he will still get the stud lightweights from Iowa. but I can't wait for ISU to be good again (& UNI even better).

Ohio State is bigger and stronger at 133, 174, 197, and Hwy, than anyone they see. That's how they won today. Was not about style, or "the psu" style, or "the iowa" style.

They horsed people at 4 weights and they won fair and square. I don't think either of our styles can beat kids who are just stronger than ours.

Tom's stubborn & changing the direction of the ship won't happen overnight. Most of us can see that.

What in the hell are you talking about? Nato is a recently bumped up 125 that is about 5'1". Clark with a healthy shoulder easily has a strength and leverage advantage. BoJo is also a bumped up 165. Being bigger than Hall means nothing, everyone at 174 is. Moore is actually a tiny 197. Did you not see how much bigger Pfarr looks? Finally, Snyder looked like a little boy compared to Medberry.

tOSU won it because they came to wrestle as a team. Some phantom strength advantage was not the reason they won.

What cracks me up, is that you don't have a favorite team, you just root against Penn State. LMAO.

At PSU he is better but at PSU he is coaching the best of the best. At ISU he was not better thus the reason he went to PSU.

PSU gave him a boatload of money. Taylor, Ruth would have stayed at ISU if Cael stayed. Cael would have the same thing going for himself if he stayed at ISU.

LOL, Ruth was never at ISU. Cael was recruiting for ISU before he was head coach and Iowa was still a leg up. Does that mean they never beat Iowa with him there, no. But I feel very comfortable saying they are not close to what he has done at PSU.

I also admit to being critical of our coaching at times but not much this year. I am going to reserve my negativity for next year when our lineup will have even more question marks. We have good kids coming in but also have good kids going out. Next year could be a long and tough one especially if Stoll cannot go.

Don't forget about Illinois. We have a few studs also. I often wonder why more of them don't end up at Iowa.
