**** EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga 2024-25 Thread ****

I haven't watched live, just follow some online updates/commentary. Don't have Paramount+, and didn't spring for it, have too many subscriptions as it is. Wish I could have watched Man City's final 15 minute collapse though!
Me too. I’m over the Citizens’ dominance via petro-state oligarchs.

Great day for Americans (apart from Balogun, whose team lost it late), but especially for PSV Eindhoven. No one is more thankful for US Soccer than their fans tonight:

Loved seeing Sporting PC (second favorite team) beat them in their last Champions game. However last Saturday when my Spurs ran wild on their turf. Madders getting 2 on his birthday after being a regular sub as of late, Porro hitting one and Brennan adding to his outstanding run after deleting social media.

Heh, when it was 2-0, my Arsenal friend and I were wondering together if the Spurs would collapse!

Spurs are sooo up and down all the time. Whip Man City on the road lose to Ipswich at home. Definitely a roller coaster team. The high line that Ange plays can be great and extremely frustrating all in one match. Tomorrow they play Roma and have 7 guys out. Thankfully it’s at Hotspur Stadium

Incredible she did this coming over half way in to the season, in only nine games. Sadly, tore her ACL in the final home game:

Wolves are so frustrating. Surrendered three penalty kicks. First one in the first minute. The next next two were boneheaded moves by the GK.

Lively MLS Cup Final. An all-originals battle of NY Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. LAG up 2-1 start of the 2nd half on FOX.

Tale of the two teams’ rebuilds: LA with two internal goals from Serbia national team’s Joveljic and Ghana NT Paintsil. German legend Marco Reus playmaking is top notch. NY with one of their young American academy products, Nealis on the volley.

EDIT:: Galaxy win. Definitely a controversial ending with NY denied a PK on a clear shirt pull.

Ok I just have to say it.

Who had Nottingham Forest being in 2nd in the EPL halfway through the season on their bingo card?

It might (hopefully) won't last after this afternoon if Chelsea does what it should against Ipswitch Town.

But damn, even if Chelsea does move back to 2nd, Nottingham Forest being in one of the Champion's league qualification spots halfway through the season is impressive.

You think it's because they got rid of Matt Turner? Probably because they got rid of Matt Turner.

In other news, is Antonee Robinson the best American player right now? Why is Pulisic not getting a ton of time at Milan this week? Did I miss something?

Hamstring injury a couple weeks back. He's was listed as questionable last match though, so it's not as severe as they had thought it might be.

Well Forest might just stay at 2nd. Chelsea just gave away a Pen which was converted. 1 - 0 Ipswitch Town.

MLS training camps open tomorrow. He's got a long way to go, but Gregg Berhalter is putting together a good, youthful foundation. Picked up once-capped USMNT CB Sam Rogers from Lillestrom (former Sounders Academy), French LW Gaetan Perrin from Auxerre has been on club player of the year form for Auxerre and looks imminent to sign, and Danish youth international Philip Zinckernagel has been on fire for Bodo Glimt, scoring this go-ahead strike (0:46 mark) at Manchester United in the Europa League six weeks ago...

Berhalter appears to be a lot better at closing deals than his predecessors, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the young guys like Omari Glasgow and David Poreba step up. We're still a designated player at midfield and striker away from really making any noise, but with Acosta, Cuypers, and Gutierrez we have a good foundation. Just need our starting defenders to stay healthy too.

I refuse to have any sort of good expectations of the Chicago Fire until they prove me otherwise. We're like on year 15 of disappointment
Last year was the first time in the history of the team that I didn’t attend a game all season. I’ll go to an early game this year before deciding whether I’m back in the summer or not.

I've been wanting to go to a game for years. Every time I've come close, they've been so terrible that I felt like they didn't deserve any of my money.

In my defense, the last two times I started a thread was about the 2020 season and especially a hype thread for 2017, and 2017 was by far our best in the last dozen years, and 2020 collapsed in the final month to miss the playoffs on the final day. I’m at about 2020 levels of optimism, not 2017.

To answer that post’s question: Yes. I’ve seen the nudge on the ground before. The most bizarre headed goal I’ve ever seen was actually in person, Kansas City of MLS vs Stoke City of the EPL. After a soft PK handed Stoke a goal with 7+ minutes left of regulation, KC used a too low clearance from a goalkeeper to score the only header from 30 yards out I’ve ever seen. 1:37:37 mark here…
