ESPN reporting Greg Mcdermott offered Ohio State head coaching position

Just saw that as well. I like Mac, he has done a very good job at both UNI and Creighton, stumbled at Iowa State. Creighton's move to the Big East helped raise their profile and he has proven he can coach in Power 5 and he may want to show that ISU was a fluke. If that is what he wants, I wish him well. Mac is a real quality guy.

I hope they hire him, I know people connected to Iowa State that we're upset with the hire from the get go. It's way too big of a job for him at OSU. Think Lickliter at Iowa.

Wow. This would be surprising to me. Creighton has a good history for sure, but Ohio is just full of talent. I imagine Mac would do very well at OSU.

Best of luck to Greg but I think he'd be a fool to take it - he's got something good going at Creighton and he's in his comfort zone there.

I've never been able to explain to anyone why he failed so spectacularly at ISU. His last team went 15-17 (4-12) with really good talent. Has to be the worst coaching job for a single season in ISU history.

Not sure he will be able to meet expectations at OSU. I have not been impressed with what he has done at Creighton. His boy carried those initial teams but he's never advanced far in the tourney.

Look he's not awful but can he really deliver the type of results OSU will expect --- that's what I am questioning. He'll get paid either way I guess.

As a Hawkeye fan, I hope he Does NOT take it.
He's an excellent coach, leader and good recruiter.
With all the resources at Ohio and their penchant for bending the rules and never getting in trouble...........we don't need that.

Go Hawks:)

Wow ... I think this hire would be a headscratcher ... OSU will eat him up and spit him out if he doesn't produce in 2-3 years ... If Matta wasn't getting it done any longer, how does a coach who is not known as an elite recruiter come in and take OSU to the next level? The same McDermott who had ONE win over a ranked opponent in his four years in Ames and less than .500 record ... I don't think he would last 3 years in Columbus ...

It would be interesting to see what his success rate would be but I can see him staying in Omaha because it seems like a much better fit with his personality. He is an elite offensive coach and with the talent OSU can put on the floor they could be very successful. I question whether he can win the big games and if he would be okay bending his personal style with some of the personalities they would be bringing in when you have that level of player, especially after the impending trial of Mo Watson. Just doesn't seem like a good fit for him personally. I think on the recruiting side he would be able to get some great recruiters on his staff and his style of play appeals to elite scorers.

As a fellow CU fan I'll keep McDermott. I have always thought Crean was awful based on the talent he was working with. Maybe combo of Crean as head of recruiting and McDermott coaching.
