Why are the cops thanking them at the beginning and giving them water? Maybe telling them to go home would’ve been a better approach?

It’s a sad situation all around. Two people died because they thought it was a good idea to run after a guy with a gun and one kid is going to prison for a long time.
Maybe the kid really was just trying to help protect businesses but that’s not the way to do it. And why is a 17 year old kid out on the streets with an assault rifle? Terrible situation.

Well he’s sitting in jail right now with no bond waiting to find out so I guess we’ll see.
Going to get interesting because they have the right to defend commercial property in Wiscy. He is going to face charges for bringing the gun across state lines most likely but he will not see a minute in jail for the shooting itself.
Giving/loaning/selling a dangerous weapon to someone under 18 is a class I felony.

(b) Except as provided in par. (c), any person who intentionally sells, loans or gives a dangerous weapon to a person under 18 years of age is guilty of a Class I felony.
(c) Whoever violates par. (b) is guilty of a Class H felony if the person under 18 years of age under par. (b)discharges the firearm and the discharge causes death to himself, herself or another.
So yes they are probably going to prison for awhile as well.
First of all the kid was in illegal possession of a firearm. Second Wisconsin is not a stand your ground state. The shooter may very well had threatened people beforehand. To go Illegally armed to a protest/riot is reckless if not premeditated. We’ll have to see what his social media history looks like.

So the kid had a *'bag with unknown contents' thrown at him, then that same attacker rushes him to assault him and gets shot. Later the kid falls down, gets kicked in the face and hit with a skateboard in the head, fearing for his life he shoots at people standing over him attacking him. What did i miss?

Two shot dead and one wounded after BLM protests in Kenosha
Two people were killed and another wounded in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday night during clashes between protesters and militia following a wave of looting.
I don't know the law in Wisconsin but if you are being violently attacked i'm pretty sure you have the right to fight back.

'MERICA, he probably would have shot up a school if the school year wasn't cancelled early in the Spring.
