Iowa needs to decide if they want to compete for bigger things or have years like this as a ceiling. I am not sure why it took me so long to realize that the style Iowa plays will not get you to even a competitive level with the top teams. They need guards that can penetrate/hit the 3 and slashing players for the guards to find. Easier said than done apparently, but if Iowa is just going to keep bringing in the 6 something "shooter" from bumble Iowa that lit it up on the HS level, that is not going to do it. The program has been bad to average the past 20ish years. This year was a better than normal team and they finished 3rd in BT and did squat in the 2 tournaments that count. So, I feel safe in saying that whatever in the hell the plan has been, they need a new one.

Yep. And that's the problem. As much flak as Kirk has gotten for being conservative, he's at least been willing to change over the years. Fran not so much. Never was that more apparent than his unwillingness to play Keegan over Connor this season. Even more perplexing, he continued to play Connor despite his injuries. It's ridiculous.
To be fair, Fran is beginning to find guys who can slash inside from the guard spots. Joe T and Perkins show that. But he needs to continue to recruit guys like them. Those are the players he needs to make his offense work.
Based off this board alone, plenty of Iowa fans are content to have an average program.
I want a program that is always in the NCAA tourney, with a sweet 16 run every 3-5 years and an even deeper run every 5-6 years. That’s a good program.
Both might be attempts to get what we need, but I don't think either are impact players. Maybe a year of actual play and not bench minutes will let them develop. JT absolutely needs to get better control of himself.

Correct. There's a reason both did not have a lot of P5 offers. For the record, I think both will be solid players, but none will be all-conference. The only other player besides Luka capable of averaging 18-20 points/game is Weezy, and I don't believe he's coming back next year.
I love recruiting height and bulk at center, and Fran has done a nice job of that. I also like how Fran recruits length and shooting range for his forwards and shooting guards.
I don't like how we've have way too many point guards who can't defend, and I don't like how the basic overall fundamentals of defense and rebounding seem to be missing each year.
I want point guards who can penetrate and defend. I don't care if they can't shoot the 3. Keep recruiting length and range with your 2, 3, and 4's and let them do the shooting. We need perimeter defense. We've never had it.
