FAC - In college what did that mean to you?

Panther Lounge >>>> Suds

Although Suds was the best bar on "The Hill" by far (in my opinion). Sharky's and Tony's both sucked (Tony's became some bar with Ice in its name)

We used to go to a place called Oasis back 2004. It wasn't around very long but really chill bar. Kind of like a poor man's Voodoo Lounge.
Oasis was in the Black Hawk Hotel correct? It moved behind Toads in that white stuco building by the parking lot.

Nickel draws!

Sports Column did $1 pitchers on Thursdays when I was in school.
You and Sally Mason ruined Iowa.

Hahaha, sometimes we'd skip FAC and just do the sack and rack(s) at the parties. Downtown could be a chore when I was there. It was the greatest thing ever for the first two years. My junior year was the year they made it illegal for 19-20 year olds to be in a bar after 10:00. The city council also passed that law about not allowing any new bars within x feet of an existing bar. And a lot of the bars started taking the law more seriously during FAC. So we started doing a lot of drugs at our rentals instead.

Edit: My 21st was at the Fieldhouse when it was officially "3rd Base." I don't even know what's there now.

And that person isn't Darren Beck? Eff Darren Beck and his employees for taking two of my fake IDs. Thanks for not calling the cops.

Surprisingly, no. He owned all of the others except those three.

I'm in the Suds group, CF from '07-'10

Hard to believe how much beer I could put down back then and still be relatively coherent...

These days its 3 beers & feeling pretty loose.

graduated mid 80's from high school and never heard of it, of course, my college in Ottumwa only went till Thursday, so it would be TAC

For me, it's hard to believe how coherent I thought I still was after the first 8 beers. I never came close to an intox charge (mostly based on the same curve that was giving me A's in gen-eds). These days it's 2 beers and I'm out or 3 beers and I'm having another 5 beers. My advice to the kids would be: Don't live with the guy who's supplying your weed. Someone will snitch on him.

...and what year did you graduate? Co-worker and I are debating how long it's been around.
BTW, kudos to OP for finding an interesting way to have an FAC thread. I started posting on HROT when I was in high school and this board had a very big influence on my college choice. So did Chad Greenway.

Friday After Class (Freshman in 1964; it was in common usage at ISU then, so presumably it was in common usage everywhere in the universe)
I graduated in 1973 and never heard it called anything but Friday Afternoon Club.

Friday Afternoon Club...Iowa grad, '84.

Matinee at Maxwell's
Pool at the Copper Dollar
The Airliner
Maxwell's for sure. And it was definitely AFTERNOON CLUB, not AFTER CLASS in 78-82.

We never went to the Greekliner, though.

Friday After Class - 2012

Usually meant downing a shower beer, a few more at home, and hitting Sports Column for what seemed like free pitchers and later Brothers before 10pm.

Great thread with Homecoming in a few weeks.

Quick Panther story. The last time CF flooded badly...08?...I headed downtown to sandbag. When we were done people needed to get eff'd up. The PL is on my bike ride home so I stopped with friends and grabbed a spot by the jukebox in a packed bar. Some skinny roaddog was dancing provocatively and meandered over and, without warning, stuck a bowl in my buddies mouth which he ripped and proceeded to do the same to me. No one gave a shit.

Fast forward into the evening and I went in to use the can. I perch in front of the urinal and before long, said roaddog staggers out of the stall with some dude, walks up behind me and peeks over my shoulder, then perches up on the sink. With her ass towards the mirror, she pees in the sink but pushes and grunts like it's deucer time. She finishes peeing, lifts her crotch up the air and wipes with the washable cloth roll attached to the wall. Then gone from my life forever. /csb

F!!!!!!!! I MISS THAT PLACE!!!!

I was well gone by '08 so it may not be as great as I remember it to be but we had a lot of fun Friday nights there pre-drinking. Had a lot of good times in CF. Pretty much lived at Mulligan's or OP for most of Sunday eating and watching NFL. Didn't go the Hill as much because we were all of age, so Main St is where we did most of our damage. A Hello Dave or Nadas concert at The Reverb feels like a life time ago.

I had some great nights I barely remember in CF with your current and former employees. When they lived at Arcadia it was out of control. I would drive up from Iowa City almost every weekend.

Friday After Class - 2000

It meant that i would be walking out of a bar around 5pm stone cold drunk wondering why it is still so light out.

I typically scheduled a 10am and noon-ish class for friday...then straight to the hill.

I graduated in 2006--Friday After Class. Big Beers at Bo James. I sometimes did the tallboys at The Fieldhouse.

Wonder whatever happened to that guy on guitar that they used to have at Bo James during my time. I thought he was pretty good, but then again I was usually pretty drunk.

Guys name was Nick Stika. Your post got me wondering the same, so I looked him up. Still appears to be active around the IC area. I really didn't even know if he did other stuff, that's the only gig I'd ever heard of him doing. Thought maybe it was just a hobby....

Thanks for looking that up. Next time I'm around IC I'll have to see if he is playing anywhere if for nothing more than nostalgia.
