What is your single (or more) favorite Hawkeye play ever? Could be a trick play, or a game winning play, or just a well executed run. If possible, share a video.

Two (technically three) of my favorites happened in the same game.

1. The pinball INT by Tyler Sash for a TD against Indiana in 2009.

2. The back to back Touchdowns on deep slants to McNutt and DJK

1. Tim Dwight punt return against Minnesota for the Big Ten record, I was too short to see over everyone as they started standing up so my mom had to hold me up, Dwight was my hero growing up too so that will forever be my #1.

2. Tate to Holloway, my brother's friend got sick right before they left for FL and he surprised me with the ticket last minute. The flight of the ball was perfectly straight away from our seats, just an awesome experience and lucky to even be there.

Tate to Holloway is hard to top
Bob Sanders INT to secure the Alamo Bowl
Center eligible against O$u has to be up there
Clayborn’s blocked punt at Penn State

Trick-or-treat Iowa City was just dumb luck, but I loved it.

Since we are talking "ever," Nile Kinnick's 4-yard touchdown run against Notre Dame in 1939. Iowa 7, Irish 6. I can't immediately find the photo. There was a cool painting of it that used to hang in the lobby of the old Ironmen Inn.

From Sports Illustrated's article on Kinnick:

"On the following Saturday, when Iowa reached the Notre Dame four-yard line on a recovered fumble with only 40 seconds left in the first half, Couppee called for a rare huddle, one of perhaps three he convened all year. The Irish had been plugging the right side of the Iowa line all day, so Couppee called a run to the left. He also wanted Kinnick to carry the ball, and in the huddle he ordered the halfbacks to switch positions. Buzz Dean was furious, and captain Prasse told his quarterback not "to screw things up like this." But Kinnick got the ball and lowered his shoulder through two tacklers to score. His extra point gave the team its ultimate 7-6 win, one of the great upsets of the season."

Let me take this on a slight tangent, if I may;
The mention of "Seven got six" and Gus Johnson almost passing out with "HE CAUGHT IT!........C!....J!....BEATHARD!" got me thinking. What is your favorite media call of an Iowa play?

Just terrific stuff right there. Thank you for sharing that RCHawk.

The first play of the Hayden Fry era at Iowa.

Chuck Long bootleg against Michigan State.

Rob Houghtlin FG against Michigan in 1985

Stanzi to McNutt at MSU. "7 got 6".

Adrian Clayborn blocks punt and returns if for TD against Penn State.

There have been some great ones...but Chuck Long holding the ball up over his head as he trotted across the goal line would be my fave too. I about gave myself a hernia cheering for that one!

I am a TE fan. Marv Cook game ending catch to beat OSU was pretty awesome.

There was a play that same year, but it was Flagg. After the catch,He got hit by a couple guys near the 10, but just carried them toward the goal. More defenders kept piling on and although you couldn’t see him, the pile kept moving. I think there may have been 6 defenders on him by the time he crumpled into the end zone.

That’s when I became a real fan of the TE.

I know we lost this game.. but the catch by Ed Hinkel vs Michigan in '04 is still one of the best catches I can remember by a Hawkeye. Wish I could find the video..

He really did have some memorable catches in his career but that one has always stuck with me for some reason

In terms of excitement when it happened:

1. Tate to Holloway
2. Clayborn block vs USC PSU
3. CJ Jones kick return
4. Mcnutt vs MSU
5. Sash int and lateral to Hyde vs MSU

This is a great list and covers most of what I was looking to post, including #5 which I think deserves more recognition.

The successful boot against Indiana by Stanzi during that comeback in 2009 (?) was fun. Fun game.

That's your favorite Iowa play ever?

Marv Cook from Chuck Hartlieb. Beating tOSU. I believe it was the week after the shooting on campus.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Iowa_shooting

1991 at Columbus was the week after the shooting. That game included the 60 yard pass to Alan Cross where he came off the line almost like a designed screen, and for whatever reason there wasn't a Buckeye on that side the field to even be in the picture as he ran down the sideline for the easiest score you'll ever see.

My favorite play at the time it happened is Beathard to Smith in the B1G championship game. It's interesting just how much the outcome of a game influences how fondly it's remembered. I can't watch that play without a deep sense of loss, even though it has to be my favorite play based on how I felt the moment in happened. It's the only play I can remember getting chills while watching live.

Another play that embodies that point really well is Broderick Binn's pick-six of Nick Foles at Arizona in 2010. At the time it was amazing - here we are about to somehow take the lead (with the XP, that ended up being blocked) in a game it looked like we were out of, somehow seeming like we might actually get out of this godawful trip to the desert with our perfect record intact in a season that had higher expectations than maybe any in Hawkeye history. Instead it's now barely remembered.

2002 Iowa vs Purdue has three candidates for me.

1. Dallas Clark 5 yard catch, hurdle, and 90 yard run. I was on the field right at the northwest corner of the end zone and he was running straight at me the entire play.

2. Banks to Clark for the go ahead TD on 4th down.

3. Banks QB draw on the final drive. When that happpened we knew we were going to win and Brad probably cemented his place as my favorite Hawkeye football player.

My favorite though is “CJ Jones, see you later.” (Trademark Pending)

Other ones not mentioned yet are Shonn Greene through half of Wisconsin, Shonn Greene trucking the Purdue DB and then later spinning around him, and any of the any of the times that Drew Tate somehow magicianed his way to avoid a sack for a major play.
