Ferentz, Iowa Unfazed by Loss of Brown, Williams

I think 9-3 is most likely but 10-2 is not out of the question.

Iowa's (3-2) Remaining Schedule:

  • vs. Washington, October 12, 2024
  • at Michigan State, October 19, 2024
  • vs. Northwestern, October 26, 2024
  • vs. Wisconsin, November 2, 2024
  • at UCLA, November 8, 2024
............................Nov 16 BYE.............................................
  • at Maryland, November 23, 2024
  • vs. Nebraska, November 29, 2024

Yes, all you have to do is look at Williams carries the last half of last year. Every team knew Deacon could not do shit in the passing game but Leshon busted the long td at Wisky and the big run late against nebby to set up the winning FG.

I am sorry to see Leshon go but there are only so many carries out there and Moulton and Jazz are ahead of him now.

Good luck Leshon. I have no idea what is up with Kaleb B. He couldnt find playing time at OSU and should be a star receiver at Iowa.
I have a hunch he lacks focus and/or intelligence. It took him most of last season to get somewhat comfortable with the playbook. It sounds like he’s had the same issues again this year while learning another offense.

Translation:

"Who cares? It wasn't my money that brought these guys in or used to try to keep them here."
Lol.. so just how much money do you think L Williams got from Iowa? I doubt even Brown broke the bank. This is just what the portal is. Don't play, move on.....

He should retire then.

I agree with this... but still think he's right in this situation. I hate this portal stuff.

I'm almost ready to just roll with Dabo and say you will play when ready and recruit that way. NIL given to guys based on performance within the team. We can't get any top guys with NIL outside of the program. All are busts on the offensive side.

If a coach who isn't willing to go for it on 4th and inches to try to win a game instead of trying (and failing) to just hang around retires, it's not like you'd be losing anything that way, either.
Not losing anything, just the games.

Actually, it seems like their attitudes were crap & they simply didn't want to be there. See the parts in red below.

And Kaleb Brown got beat out by a Northwestern transfer & a true freshman.

the full text of the tweet:

Kirk Ferentz on the departures of Leshon Williams and Kaleb Brown:

"The bottom line is this, not to be callous, but if a player is really not playing, it's not like you lose anything that way. And then the other part of it, to fall back on a line from Mike Tomlin, you don't want hostages on your team. Again, it doesn't do anybody any good, especially the individuals, to be in an environment where they're not enthused to be there. It's just not good for anybody. So I just wish the guys well, and I hope they find happiness wherever they do go. I really mean that. Because I want all of our guys to be successful. Right now, our focus is on the guys we're coaching every day."

Watch:

Give this another listen. Ferentz wasn't saying "their" attitudes were crap. The highlighted portions were referring to Brown, not Williams.

I think the OWI / car accident with Brown was also a strong indicator that he was not taking football seriously.

Well we got hurt when Charlie Jones left and even Tyrone Tracy who made an NFL squad. Those are two pros who left our program, both wide receivers, that is pretty bad on Kirk's watch.
Keep in mind, Tyrone Tracy is on the Giants as an RB, which is what we tried to get him to switch to and he balked and left. Jones for sure is 100% on the coaches, but they did see the potential Tracy had at RB, but he didn't want to switch.

Maybe he shouldn’t have gotten an OWI before the season if he was so committed to Iowa’s football program. 🤔
Bob Sanders got an OWI while he was at Iowa. I wouldn't say an OWI in and of itself is an indicator of anything other than poor judgment at that time. But given Kaleb's other issues (attention to detail, practice habits, learning the offense, showing up on time to meetings, etc), the OWI did end up being an add'l indicator for him.

Sorry Kirk but I feel like a hostage watching your offense the last 6 years.

Kirk's plan to ruin this season in order to use our record as a way to entice elite preps with promises of "playing time" (i.e. one play per season) is working to perfection.

I'm callin him 4D-Ferentz from here on out.
