I know tons of people on here have been talking about the Peach Bowl being the likely choice for us to fall down to should we stumble in the B1G CCG. But here's my question, why wouldn't the Fiesta Bowl snap us up??

According to one Jerry Palm with CBS Sports he's thinking that tOSU would take the Fiesta Bowl Bid and match up against Houston while we would go to the Rose with a loss.

What makes everyone think that we would automatically go "all the way down" to the Peach Bowl if we somehow wind up a bit short against Sparty? I would think the Fiesta Bowl would LOVE To have us especially since we have never been in it before.

GO HAWKS!!

Which Bowl has first rights?

Based on the Wikipedia Page LOL it looks like this

Orange Bowl - #1 CFP vs #4 CFP
Cotton Bowl - #2 CFP vs #3 CFP

Rose - Big 10 #1 vs Pac-12 #1
Sugar - SEC #1 vs Big 12 #1
Fiesta - At Large vs At Large
Peach - At Large vs At Large

So I would think that we would only fall down to the Fiesta, and not all the way to the Peach. But the Rose is definitely still in play as well.

I actually would rather go to the fiesta and play ND than the Rose and play Standford.

That is just me though

Agreed. All this talk about how "superior" they are and whatnot... would be nice to bring them back down to earth Hawkeye-Style :) But the Rose Bowl has always been a demon that I've wanted to see Iowa exorcise since we haven't had good luck there recently.

I know the Rose has the bigger cache with people but Fiesta for me is a better option. Better opponent by name, easier to get to Phoenix for me, know a lot of people in phoenix., ect...

The Peach and Fiesta are now equals, as they are each NY6 games. So no team would be "falling" to the Peach from the Fiesta. I've heard that those two non-contractual games may end up with teams based on geographical positions of the participants. I don't have a link to substantiate this, though.

So the Rose would have dibs first on what B1G team they want. The Fiesta and Peach are both the at large this year and from my understanding the Fiesta picks first then the Peach then the Fiesta then the Peach. I've heard Peach is likely going to pick Florida St. Which means Fiesta will get to pick likely between OSU/Iowa and then ND and Houston. Which is why there is a lot of talk of the Fiesta people talking with the Rose people about the Rose taking Iowa so the Fiesta can take Ohio St and ND. Of course I think Iowa is going to beat MSU so this means nothing to me.

Only equal in that they are NY6 games, but for bowl week, ambiance and city, Atlanta, is the worse.
At least with New Orleans, you have Bourbon Street.
Give me Miami, Phoenix and Dallas over these 2.
Sorry, as a 45-year-old, the Rose is still real to me..

Thanks for the info. I think Fiesta will take Notre Dame first. I guess it comes down to whether or not the Peach would take Iowa or FSU. If they take FSU, then I can see the Fiesta taking Iowa next.

Thats where the game comes in between these Bowl committee's. The idea is that if the Rose and Fiesta come to an agreement that the Rose will take Iowa. The Fiesta will take Ohio St knowing that the Peach will likely need to take FSU which would leave ND for Fiesta. Peach wants FSU so they can pull in all the alumni and fans that live in that area. They will bring in more people if they have FSU.

1. Beat MSU
2. Rose vs Stanford
3. Don't care between Peach or Fiesta, as long as we play ND, FSU, etc. No disrespect to Houston, Temple, etc., but playing a non P5 team would feel like a huge bummer at 12-1

Not sure why some people are picking Iowa to play Houston. If Iowa goes to the Fiesta or Peach it will likely be against ND just the way the selection process happens. I cant see the Fiesta or Peach picking Iowa as their first choice just as I can't see either of them picking Houston as their 3rd choice. Only way that happens is if there is some BS negotations behind closed doors for one of those bowls to take both Iowa and Houston and let the other have ND vs FSU.

.....Fiesta picks after Rose I think...no way they pass on Iowa...would think it would be Iowa/ Notre Dame...Peach Houston /FSU...Jerry Palm CBS is the Bowl expert he must know something (sources/on the Rose bowl and Iowa/MSU loser)...this is what he does for a living and of course wants to be as accurate as possible and does a great job...I have also have heard some think if Iowa loses they go to the Rose or Fiesta/MSU loses they could go to the Peach...my guess Hawks Fiesta with a loss...just a guess...Hawks to the playoff no worries

So let me find the logic here, the CFP is taking the highest rate for the Rose Bowl which will likely be Ohio St. So wouldn't they take the next highest team for the Fiesta which would be Iowa? Then would we play the next highest rated in Notre Dame and FSU get Houston?

I know there is no logic to it, but just trying to understand why they use CFP ranking for one bowl but not the next.

I think if it's a really close loss we could still go to the Rose Bowl. However, if it is that close I think CJ will find a way to win it. I know a Rose Bowl win doesn't carry the weight it used to, but I would still like to see Iowa win one in my lifetime.

War,
The Rose bowl gets to whichever B1G team they want. They've simply stated they will use the rankings to base their selection; they've basically (at least publicly) washed their hands of the selection process. I believe wholeheartedly, though, that there are background dealings that occur and if the Rose wants a particular team (and the B1G - and maybe even ESPN - are cool with it) that team will just so happen to be ranked ahead of the other team. Then, hey look, we picked the higher ranked team. If Iowa we're get to get blown out this weekend it would be difficult to justify them being ranked above OSU, though.

Are Peach and Fiesta payouts the same? I'm not sure they are. So maybe the one that pays more does (behind the scenes) get a little more influence into their selection ???

Wait, besides matchups, don't Bowls care about butts in seats any more and thousands of visitors spending money at hotels and restaurants? I know 20 Iowans in Arizona. I don't know a soul in Georgia. Iowa fans in Arizona would come out like locusts, not to mention the thousands of Iowa fans coming to Arizona. The Fiesta Bowl knows this. The Peach Bowl surely knows that the Fiesta would attract more Iowa fans.

If you do the math, OSU is going to finish 5th in the final poll and the vibe right now is that the Rose wants them very bad. Count on it. Not rocket science here..

I can't find it, but I swear the Orange Bowl paid more last year than the Cotton/Peach/Fiesta, because I remember it being a big financial boom for the SEC that Miss St and not Mich St went to the Orange Bowl

I understand that. I was responding to some of the fans that kept mentioning the Rose as a possibility. I believe the loser of the BIG CG will end up in the Peach or possibly the Fiesta.
