A top offensive scheme makes it easy for good, young QBs to just go out there and sling the ball around, count heads in the box and call run plays, etc. The hawk defense got pressure and a bunch of sacks but how easy was it for TN receivers to go down 20 yards, stop and comeback 5 to 7 yards, and catch wide open comeback route passes and then have room to get YAC. Way too much time. Our cornerbacks did not have a good day, I know they were in zone alot but TN receivers were catching passes and our dbacks were not on the TV screen.

The new OC will need to make major improvements to the OLine, I know it is obvious but it is still the #1 problem. They cant get much push, they cant give enough pass protection, simple. They try hard but it aint there. As others have mentioned, need to get portal OLinemen but it might be too late already this year because no new OC, and probably no new OLine coach yet.

Our receivers still have pretty bad hand catching techniques. That needs to improve but also the pass timing has the ball already on the receivers as they turn to catch. We need one more much better receiver from the portal but if KalebB can catch the ball more routinely and the others also then it will help.

Can Marco be a good passer, is he a good passer? He was under a lot of pressure so still not sure if we saw him at his passing best. Cade will probably have braces on both knees, he is an above avg passer, but if there isnt the pass protection he will be under pressure.

Especially Purdy, Iowa never lost a game that one of those guys played. Undefeated national champions!!!!
Someone asked on SoundOff last night if Purdy would've made it in the NFL if he played for Iowa instead of Iowa State..............................

Hindsight is 20/10, but it also is something to entertain.

In season of new offensive lows, this statistic may be the most damning of all.
This record may never be broken.

You are correct about Tennessee offense. The QB sees a light box and hands the ball off. . If not passes the ball. Most of the time he only has to see one side of the field on passing plays. UTs OLine wasn’t good yesterday in pass defense.

This. It's so simple and almost everyone does it w/the threat of a QB that can move even just a little. You force the linebackers to hold for even just a split second on the handoff/no handoff. When you've got a weapon like Tennessee does now at Qb it just makes it so much harder for the defense to play downhill. He can throw it or run it. Stack the box a bit and leave yourself in man coverage? He finds the 1 on 1 matchup. Light box? He hands it off or keeps it himself. And then when you've got the wide splits and field spread it forces the defense to cover the whole field. And I'm tired of hearing about how Kirks system can work. Sure it can if we have a JJ McCarthy at Qb who's mobile and an o line like Michigan and of course Blake Corum and 4 star receivers. Simplify the offense. It's one thing if this god forsaken piece of shit offense was complicated but worked but it doesn't. None of it works.

Marco's HS tape is frankly the best Ihave seen since Tate's, Watch all of them , He has great pocket awareness , knows when to tuck and run and made throws t all levels some with touch when needed and some drilled into tighter windows, that Guy on that tape is a QB You can win with but every Iowa QB since forever has been hog tied by the scheme and horrible position coaching , Get a good OC who schemes routes at all levels and teaches the QBs with proficiency and Iowa can win with Marco, also Copeland needs to go, the basic technique of catching a football is void in the WR room, None high point the ball or catch with Their hands all are body catchers and none get separation and all have shown suspect hands, the TE room by contrast is extremely well coached.

Then add the tempo that Heupel uses. Nico ran the offense faster than Milton could this season. It doesn’t let the defense communicate, get set, disguise coverage or sub in fresh players or players for a special package.

Sometimes defense minded head coaches hurt the offense by being too conservative. Pruitt did at Tennessee. He wanted a slow paced low risk offense. Mark Stoops wants to run 50-55 plays per game to protect his defense. It makes UKs defense numbers look better, but it kills their offense.
