Fleck signs extension

You will know next year and the year after if that was a smart move.

My money is on.....not a smart move. He hasnt proved he can do it at a high level yet. Plus, this coming off of a 39-0 pounding.

Yes, and why the 'Ferentz will never do that', or 'Iowa will do this' type of posts are funny. Yet, many authors of posts are certain they indeed know what will happen.

It is a long committment, but who else are they going to get in the twin cities? Still needs a little time to get more guys into system. Certainly some risk of course. If I were in their shoes, he seems worth rallying around. Young, energetic, aggressive, building a little buzz up north.

I feel like we had the opportunity for a mini resurgance after the woodshed game and we absolutely crashed on our face. Very disappointing.

Agreed, Not a smart move. A huge over-reaction to a victory over one of the weakest Debby teams in recent memory. We will see how fast Wiscy's second team hits the field Saturday. Wisconsin Defensive pride alone should result in another Minni Offensive goose egg in PJ's rookie season finale, resulting in just 2 Big Ten victories and a very week 1-3 finish in November.

As much as I hate to say it and as much as I hate the rah rah crap of Fleck I fear this may be a good move for Minny. We will see what happens 2 to 3 years down the road when he has his players. I hope like hell I am wrong

I do think Minnesota will be better next year but way too early for an extension. An overreaction to other schools showing interest in Fleck.

ah, it's 2-6

so what does 3-5 get you? It seems to me your coach is locked up for years to come!

Well, once that row boat of a program accomplishes half of what Ferentz has, then we'll talk. You are little joke running around here with your fanboy little posts. Now if you can take Flecks c*ck out of your mouth for a bit you might see that.

So they’ll do that every year? Then when they don’t it’ll hurt their recruiting.

At some point, or they'll be smart enough to build a manageable buyout clause... ..... ..... yeah, I'm looking at you Barta........into his contract to balance out the extension. It still makes me angry as hell that IOWA wasn't smart enough to build this fundamental piece into KFz's contract. Incompetence of the highest degree.

This one year extension is no big deal, simply says "we're behind you and are gonna give you some time to build the program the way you want"... for now.

Not speaking from experience mind you...........................but I am not sure that would inhibit his ability to see.

Iowa will solve their buyout problem in 2018 or 2019. Barta will retire, Kirk becomes AD and names Brian as head coach. Everyone will be happy, they will save money and continue on winning 5-6-7 games a year.

Meanwhile in Lincoln, Nebraska fires Riley. Kelly has already said he has zero interest. Frost isn't coming. How old is Solich?

After we stomp you guys AGAIN, that'll be 1 season the past 10 years of less than 7 wins....where you coming up with 5, 6 wins? Nice try......
BTW you've had 2 of them the last 3 years. Hmmmm

we were 9-0 in conf play when we gave an extension(one that was too long, but it is what it is)
What it gets us is a better team than the goofs and braska.....

Certainly possible, and no one would argue we hover at or slightly above decent. I would point out that excluding Kirk's first two seasons, we have had only ONE season with FIVE or FEWER wins (that would be 2012 with FOUR). We have had a number of SIX and SEVEN win seasons. Here are the averages:

All Seasons with Kirk through last year 7.5 Average Wins Per Year
All Seasons with Kirk (minus first two rebuilding efforts) 8.2 Average Wins Per Year
