PJ Fleck is an elite coach. This was the right decision by Minny.
A 5-6 record plus a 39-0 beatdown gets you to elite status? I think Charlie Weis must be Fleck's agent. Nobody except Weis can do so little and collect so much.

Kirk got his first extension when he had a 2-18 overall record.we were 9-0 in conf play when we gave an extension(one that was too long, but it is what it is)
What it gets us is a better team than the goofs and braska.....

HUH? I get the first part, but what does your commentary of Iowa's struggles the last two weeks have to do with this post?It is a long committment, but who else are they going to get in the twin cities? Still needs a little time to get more guys into system. Certainly some risk of course. If I were in their shoes, he seems worth rallying around. Young, energetic, aggressive, building a little buzz up north.
I feel like we had the opportunity for a mini resurgance after the woodshed game and we absolutely crashed on our face. Very disappointing.
While I agree that Fleck COULD move the needle in Minny, its far from reality at this point. What gets me is the number of post in numerous threads about what he's going to do WHEN he gets the players. He hasn't proven YET that he can bring in consistent high level talent to Minny. Why are so many people acting like this is a given? As much as I hate to say it and as much as I hate the rah rah crap of Fleck I fear this may be a good move for Minny. We will see what happens 2 to 3 years down the road when he has his players. I hope like hell I am wrong
Maybe, as long as one of those W's is against the bugeaters, it will keep a lot of the fans happy....Iowa will solve their buyout problem in 2018 or 2019. Barta will retire, Kirk becomes AD and names Brian as head coach. Everyone will be happy, they will save money and continue on winning 5-6-7 games a year.
Regarding constant drubbing Ferentz takes here about recruiting and on the field talent, the whiners here may want to look at this weeks NFL Active rosters, CJ Bethard, George Kittle, Sherrif, Reiff, Carl Davis, Claborn, Hyde, C.J.-Fiedorowicz, Kirksey, Hitchens and Mike Daniels starting, King, LeShun, Meban, Crosten and Klug (to name a few), average of 8 + victories a year and somewhere in the top 6 of the Big Ten year in and year out, several victories over the Top 5 in the Nation, I mean, really! This is mediocre?Certainly possible, and no one would argue we hover at or slightly above decent. I would point out that excluding Kirk's first two seasons, we have had only ONE season with FIVE or FEWER wins (that would be 2012 with FOUR). We have had a number of SIX and SEVEN win seasons. Here are the averages:
All Seasons with Kirk through last year 7.5 Average Wins Per Year
All Seasons with Kirk (minus first two rebuilding efforts) 8.2 Average Wins Per Year
