Florida DI Wrestling!!

Football state therefore Football $ comes first. Wish it was different
Edit for elaboration: Florida has about 100x as many football camps as Iowa does wrestling.
Now wheres that so your saying there's a chance meme?

The wrestling in Florida has been picking up over the years with more quality wrestlers headed down there to coach (ex: Mocco) I feel like college wrestling interest can pick up there. While they have club teams they now also have an NAIA team that's in year 2 or 3 I believe.

I'm all for it! I'm also all for more CA schools getting back into the picture (Fullerton and Long Beach specifically). And what about Texas - those guys can put out some talent that could build a pretty darn good UT and especially a good Aggie team.

A few Colleges in Florida have wrestling programs although at the NWCA level. Central Florida and Florida have programs and I believe (need to do more research) there are a couple of others who compete as well. It may not be NCAA level but these programs are something and could possibly grow with support.

I know a lot of the coaches there, area seems to be improving quite a bit. Still a weak area of the state but getting better.

Will never happen in our lifetime. Two reasons:

1. Travel
It will take South Carolina and Georgia getting a program first. That's a lot of cost for dual competition, let alone tournaments.

2. TEN MILLION DOLLARS (say it in the Dr. Evil voice)
Someone (or ones) is going to have to pony up $5 mil in endowment for the wrestling team AND $5 mil in endowment for the corresponding women's team.

Wrestling is just not a big deal. And while D-1 athletics operate in the *red* they are clearly built on the donations model. It's clear that money is coming from somewhere, and while the official release of documents say that most athletics programs and most football teams operate in the red, that is clearly not the case, or we would see way more schools dropping football or filing for bankruptcy.

So while there is a public clamor for adding sports, Athletic Directors care about one thing - who's going to pay for it?
