Florida may get sports betting

Sports betting is live in Florida now

It's only through hard rock right now though, right? They haven't opened it up to make bets through poker rooms and such have they? That is cool if you can do it through their app and it's easy to get paid out.

I believe that is correct. I think they (the Seminole Tribe) is working to expand to some physical locations outside of their properties.

Sounds like there are problems and all bets will be off after Sunday. I am in southwest Florida and did not sign up. According to Fort Myers television getting your money back may be a problem if there is a stoppage. Maybe you guys know more than I, but I am going to wait when I get back down here after Christmas. Only here until Sunday now.

There are expected legal challenges forthcoming, but some of those same legal challenges have already failed.

After having the new Hardrock App for 20 minutes my wife now thinks she's a professional handicapper. She wanted to bet on the Ball State-Akron game last night even though she couldn't tell me where either school is located. I may need to put a parental lock on her phone!
Gambling really does a number with our evolutionary biology’s appetite for risk/reward.

I received the following email tonight from the Hard Rock Florida. You guys probably did also.
I am not in Florida anyway and don't know when I will get back there.

The shutdown saved me a little because I would have lost on Oklahoma State. Game started an hour after the cutoff so I got my money back.

Hopefully I can get this figured out soon. More so for the onsite sportsbooks than the app. I can still use an offshore app but I am looking forward to seeing if they add a sportsbook inside the Hard Rock here in Tampa.

Guys, listen, it's not surprising that such stuff will start happening in Florida soon. The government does not rarely bend under the influence of the rich and those who pay money. Florida was no exception, and unfortunately it will happen soon, then you just have to put up with it or make some kind of protests. I personally saw how advertising companies of such bookmakers as W88 and gambling houses of different varieties began to open on the Internet. I didn't like it, and neither did you, but there's nothing I can do about it, we can only protect our relatives and friends from being involved there. Playing in a casino is not normal, considering that the casino always wins.

Does this mean there is a new timetable on when betting will be back in action here in Florida?

As a side note, were were in DC a couple weeks ago and went to a Nationals game. There's an MGM Sportsbook AT THE STADIUM! Can't actually access it from inside the stadium but its connected on the outside. Pretty awesome and dangerous for me at the same time. They had all the games on and cheaper beer than in the stadium. I almost didn't make it into the game.

Awesome. I've been reading a lot about this today and that tweet that @runkpanole posted is the first one that mentioned an app. Everything else has been focusing on the in-person gaming. I'm curious to see what the sportsbooks look like on December 8 and what they evolve into once the casinos have had more time to build something permanent.

I see the app will be limited for awhile. I really don’t want to go to Immokalee to place sports bets.

Yea they are only letting those of us who were using the app for the three weeks back in 2021 use it for now. I guess they are testing things out on us true degens before rolling it out to the masses.

Closest thing to a degen thread I can find.

Anyone taking this under?

Oddsmakers are going to new lows trying to get a gauge on defensive-minded Iowa.

The over/under total on the Hawkeyes' home game Saturday against Rutgers dipped to a historic low this week at sportsbooks.

As of late Thursday morning, the total sat at a consensus 28, the lowest of any college football game since at least 2000, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Barring late line movement, Rutgers-Iowa will be the first game with an over/under total of less than 30 in ESPN's odds database.

"I looked through my database and couldn't find a number in the 20s," Craig Mucklow, a longtime Las Vegas oddsmaker with Caesars Sportsbook, said on a company podcast. "I did find 1,500 games over the last five years with higher first-half totals [than 28]."

The Rutgers-Iowa total opened as high as 30 but has been dropping, but bettors have flocked to the take the under despite the historically low number. Sportsbooks BetRivers, DraftKings and PointsBet (Fanatics) were reporting upward of 80% of the money that had been wagered on the total this week was on the under.

Six games since 2000 have had a total less than 34, and Iowa has been involved in five of them, including the Hawkeyes' past two games -- a 12-10 loss to Minnesota and a 10-7 victory over Northwestern.

Iowa has the 122nd-ranked scoring offense, averaging 18.7 points per game, including 11.7 in its last three, and the fourth-ranked defense, surrendering only 13.4 points per game. Seven of Iowa's nine games have gone under the total this season.

"Iowa is the same every week: not really good offense, really good defense," said Joey Feazel, who oversees college football odds for Caesars. "That's a great calculation for unders."

I downloaded the app back then but I never used it. I deleted it later after sports betting
was “canceled”. I did register or sign up though. Maybe I will be able to use it. I will know in January.

If you downloaded it and created a login, I think you are good. I just redownloaded the app and was able to sign in and I can make a deposit and bet. I did place a bet back when it first came on though.

Hard Rock remembered me. Thanks.

I would imagine there are a lot of people in Florida betting Florida State to win the National Championship. Everybody likes to have some money on their favorite team.

Asking you guys in the know:

Why is there so much aggravation and resentment about sports betting in Florida?

It was Disney and the Christian right that fought it for years. Now, Disney/ESPN have their own sports betting. So, it really boils down to the almost exclusivity for the Seminole Tribe.
