Florida not feeling the Bern

Michigan will be much more interesting. It might be silly to let red states pick the blue candidate. We will soon see.

Florida is full of retired people trying to hold onto their money and live out the balance of their days in a comfortable fashion,.. This is not at all Bernie's audience..
This is true, but to win the presidency, you are likely going to have to win Florida. Yes, many of those polled would vote for him if he were the nominee, but many likely wouldn’t.

Umm, the people that vote Democratic in those states are ultimately represented by the President of the United States. Them having a vote that actually counts in the primary seems fair, since their vote in the general election won't.

The suggestion to disenfranchise millions of black people in the South doesn't sound like a very progressive idea at all.

Old people like free stuff. Bernie struggles in Florida because there are lot's of Cubans and Venezuelans in Florida. And, a lot of political / media clout against those two countries. You can't expect a guy who speaks glowingly of Fidel Castro to do well in Florida.
Just my opinion.

The people in the purple and blue states have the same claim. Why isn’t it fair that they get a vote that actually counts?

But this isn’t about fairness. It’s about winning. And under the electoral college system, all votes are not equal. Dems just lost a race because they didn’t remember that. Purple states are the most important. They are the only states that get any attention and they decide the election. They should go first. Red states don’t matter at all to the blue candidates. And of course the opposite is true for red politicians.

Not necessarily. If Hillary had won MI, WI, and PA she would be President right now despite losing Florida.
Hence the word, likely.

That being said, I wouldn’t see Bernie winning Florida or Wisconsin and would be a toss up in the others.

Of course, this is likely moot at this point.

Old people like free stuff.

The vast majority of old people are primarily concerned with holding onto their "stuff",.. They also fully realize anybody else's "free stuff" is simply going to be coming out of their pockets,.. Bernie doesn't really have an opening in Florida..

Uh, no. All the Dems need is to regain Pa/WI/MI. Don't need Florida nor Ohio. And I think the Dems take AZ, which could offset maybe losing MN.

You think they get that? Ha!

Republicans have a real dilemma... they might have to actually fight to hold onto Texas as a "Red" State. The key for the Dems is invigorating Hispanics to actually vote.

Just forcing the GOP to "defend" Texas will be a win.

The Cuban American community are solid capitalists and by and large have done extremely well in this country. Venezuelans who escaped are the wealthier ones who got out early and there's no way they want a socialist, so you're correct.

Old people are no different than any other age group. Who doesn't like free stuff? What free stuff are we getting? Grand opening giveaways at a store? BOGOS at Publix?

R turnout in TX was off by 32% for the primary, and D turnout was up by about 17%, but those who did vote R were several hundred thousand more than those who voted for Bernie, Joe, and Bloomberg combined.

You made my point... Bernie's support in south and west Texas couldn't offset Biden's support in Houston/Dallas.

The issue for Dems in November is voter turnout. Hispanics didn't vote in high enough numbers to save Sanders. Trump will win Texas if the turnout isn't higher.

Yep, my post was basically supporting what you said. It's all good.

Yeah, sad that so many people believed this misinformation and the media outlets did a great job of keeping it going. He simply said the education in Cuba improved under early Castro (which it really did and he was just stating a fact) and that he doesn't support the Castro regime or any dictator........but who cares what the guy actually says....let's just continue calling him a socialist who supports dictators because who gives a sh#t about what people really think and say....it's all about the narratives of the people you follow.
