I am optimistic about most things, but this is a terrible idea. For one thing, the sections are going to be split between Iowa and MSU fans. Also, a ton of fans won't even know what section they're in until the day of the game.
Yea, I agree, but shared it nonetheless. I have tickets already so I'll be able to comply. However, I've worn the same shirt for every game this year, so if I'm in a gold section, it's not happening.

Every Hawkeye fan just wears two shirts to the game, one black and one gold. If you have the wrong one on top, you go to restroom and change. Just no Metrodome bathroom tricks allowed please.

Given I have not received tickets yet and they have cashed my check I am just hoping I GET my tickets.

Just no Metrodome bathroom tricks allowed please.

I believe the rule on this is if we have a 45+ point lead then all bets are off. Especially since they will be selling beer at this game. And it is at night.

It's not that hard to have a black shirt under a gold one or vice versa. Don't be like one of those people who show up the spirit game in grey. We can make this happen and look cool. Go Hawks.

Alright, I'm back from the future. Turns out I was wrong and this turned out great. Sorry I doubted. I was able to get my hands on a photo to show how sweet it looked:

I think their plan would be to scalp tickets, which probably isn't a great idea since tickets are still being sold for a premium.

TBH, I'd bet there are a ton more Iowa fans than MSU fans. Even in my Iowa circle which is filled with people who go to 0-1 games per year there are a lot of people travelling to Indy. I went to school at ISU and know quite a few ISU fans (who really don't even like Iowa) travelling to this game to support the Hawkeyes. I imagine plenty of other social circles in the state are doing the same. Proximity will help MSU, but I doubt the Iowa athletic department would have encouraged this if they didn't know there is a hefty amount of the "free market" tickets being shipped to Iowa.

You know ISU fans that are willing to pay $150+ a ticket to watch a team that they don't even like?

That might be the most pathetic thing that I've ever heard. As are people that don't even support Iowa at home traveling to this game.

Yup.

Not sure why buying tickets to go somewhere to hang out with friends and have a good time is pathetic. I'm pretty sure that just because they don't particularly like Iowa doesn't mean they hate their rival the same way a bunch of message board geeks do.

I'll be there in GOLD in my even section. Don't be a Debbie... No one thought it would work for the 1st blackout against Michigan in 05, or the 1st Gold Bowl, or the 1st Black and Gold Spirit Game...

Or maybe they have sucked for so long they want to see what success feels like without having to step foot in Kinnick. To tailgate for a game that actually means something. I wouldn't go to a major bowl game featuring ISU if someone paid for the trip, and I have multiple ISU friends whose company I enjoy. No chance.

I really don't think that is it. I'm really surprised by all of the insecurities on display here.

I don't know if it will work or not, but I do think the split in fan bases will be something like 45k to 15k.

45K? That's a wildly ambitious estimate for a team that couldn't even sell out at home on senior day. I say 30k is the ceiling. Also, MSU will bring more than 15K they are very close to Indy.

Stupid. This is for a B1G Championship and a semi-final birth. No gimmicks necessary.

If someone ever offers you to pay for a trip to a major bowl game featuring ISU could you point them in my direction? Free vacation is free vacation.

Well, if I didn't have to go to the game I would prolly go. ;)

God the senior day argument is so stupid....

Okay set that aside. The fact is attendance figures are down all year. It's unequivocal. The cheapest ticket on Stubhub is $150, and downtown Indy hotel prices are through the roof. You really think 45K Iowa fans will be there? You have absolutely no basis for this estimation. That figure is just insane. Remember, a huge chunk of the tickets belong to re-sellers meaning it comes down to a bidding war between MSU and Iowa fans. If Iowa gets 25,000 fans there I will be happy and impressed. Anything approaching 45K would be mind blowing and maybe the best conference championship turnout for any school ever not playing in their home state? I would happily eat crow if it happened, but it really is a crazy figure to throw out there.

I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

I will be very surprised if there are less than 35k, and fairly confident it will be over.

MSU will not have a strong following in comparison for several reasons. Did they even sell their 10k allotment? They have been there three times, didn't know they were going until Saturday, and they don't the best traveling fan base to begin with.

In this case, we both want me to be correct. :D

That's dumb. I would pay to go with my ISU friends. (If they made them more often) a few yrs back, I had the opportunity but had kids activities. So, no. It isn't that big of a deal

I know right? Only a millionaire would drop that kind of serious money on a game such as this. I guess I'll be there with 45k of my closest millionaire friends.

I agree. People will be surprised how many hawk fans go. MSU has sold their allotment too by the way

Sarcasm doesn't make my point any less logical. I've looked up this game for the last few years and the only fanbase that may have even sniffed 30K was Ohio State.

I would love this to be a de facto home game and want to be wrong, but I just don't see a sound basis in expecting 45K fans.

Yes MSU sold their allotment. There is a lot of energy in their fanbase. They are confident that their team is a legit national title contender and headed to the playoff. I expect 20K+ MSU fans to be there similar to their last appearance against Wisky where stadium images showed it to be pretty much an even split. I will be happy if I'm wrong, but I think some of you are under selling the historical importance of this game on the MSU side of things.
