For the Crow crowd..

Not sure you understand how the standings are calculated. Might want to brush up on that before touting our Athletic Directors "success".

Or you could just answer my question.

Are hockey and water polo sports in the Director’s cup? Yes or no?

I really don’t care about Gary Barta one way or another. Iowa does a pretty good job (financially) when it comes to its sports program and fairly well on the field when you consider what it has going against them.

I care even less about the director cup, field hockey, swimming/diving, CC, volleyball and most non revenue sports. Schools with more programs will have an obvious advantage. That’s why I would assume Stanford is at the top of these lists year after year.

You can count on one hand how many schools won an FBS bowl game, an NCAA men’s and women’s basketball game and still have a few fingers left over. Iowa is one of those fingers. That’s a pretty neat accomplishment. And yes, I realize several teams in the NCAA tournament don’t compete in the FBS.

Why do we always have to have these crow eating posts? Really happy they won today, but does any of that change how the last month of the season went, AGAIN this year? Now if this team gets to the sweet sixteen, then maybe, but why are we not able to voice our displeasure with Iowa basketball in Feb and March? It has nothing to do with today.....
Because if it was up to people like the guy who started this post, Lick would still be here. Being critical of an Iowa coach, when year after year his team collapses at the end of the season, is kind of like being critical of the North Korean leader!

Significantly? Probably not. Improve on a 0.488 B1G winning %? I sure hope so.

Biggest thing would not have to see our coach brought up on national sports shows chasing down refs shouting "You cheating m***********s!", being physically restrained from a ref, kicking scores tables, slamming chairs, etc. Just my opinion of course.

Well you are conflating two different properties or qualities.

Part I.

The winning percentage is distorted by the first couple of years where top to bottom talent was either marginal, injured, inexperienced or isolated (Matty G). Second season F McC had Iowa back in the NIT; better than Alford's last season after 8 years of false promises that "next year" will be the year and, of course much better than any Lick season. Last year sucked but we started an incredibly young team in a very tough league. Iowa doesn't get the one and done guys so winning with a team of almost all sophs or freshmen is a tall order for any Iowa coach.

I have three very important words for you: Doctor Thomas Davis. All the grousing about a plateau, etc... created enough momentum for our previous jag off AD (Bowlsby) to run off Dr. Davis. That was our last Sweet 16 appearance. We tried the hot young gun-coming off a Sweet 16: Alford. That was like hiring cancer to slowly eat your body. Then we tried the a guy that had been to two Sweet 16s in the previous four seasons; coming off a Sweet 16 as NCoY: Lick. How'd that work out for Iowa?

The Hawk boys are coming off at least a second round appearance with 9 of the top 10 players, and all five starters returning, or at least we hope so. We're bringing in yet another top 100 player to replace the lone senior. Luka, TC, C McC, Joey W and P McC all top 100 players. Jobu and Isaiah top 120. Iowa is winning, still playing in the field of 32 and still young (ish). While it really is a matter of opinion I'd rather not gamble on another decade long rebuilding process.

Part II

Again, Fran's deportment is a matter of opinion. Doesn't bother me at all. The Big Ten officials do cheat and they cheated us hard against tOSU, especially in the second half.

Its like a response to rape. Now some women fight their assailants and when the assault concludes go after them in court. They relentlessly pursue their attackers until justice is done. Other women quietly absorb the assault; engage in self destructive doubt about what they, the victim, could have done differently to produce a better outcome and just hope the assailant doesn't return. I support the first choice-fight back and keep fighting the fight until you win. We've been getting cheated out of 4-8 games a year in the Big Ten, almost every season, for the last 40 years. Maybe its time to hit back?

Our AD should have stood up for F McC. Would have been easy. "While Coach McC became overly angry and we regret his profanity we are deeply concerned about the appearance of officiating bias that has been demonstrated over the last several seasons. We have raised these concerns with the Big Ten office and have not received a satisfactory explanation. We are deeply concerned regarding our player safety and the integrity of the game."

That's the argument. We'd catch some hate but someone in the league office might remember 25 or so years ago when the folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin started talking about game fixing and bam...the officiating improves. It certainly couldn't get much worse. The Big Ten does not want a high profile dispute about the honesty of their officiating. The media would eat it up like a pack of 9th grade football players at the all you can eat buffet at Pizza Ranch.

All that PediaSure you learned about sportsmanship, respecting the officials regardless of the officials integrity or performance, in FCA or AAU is out the window the minute you involve tens of millions of dollars on the outcomes of these games. So yeah, I want the coach to fight the crooked officials and it would be quite refreshing to see an AD willing to fight for the school that pays him and not the league that uses his school as a goddamn sparring partner or the Washington Generals for the higher profile media market programs.

Being quiet about the cheating hasn't really worked. Maybe drawing attention to it can cause enough heartburn in Chicago that we start getting reasonable officiating instead of the rigged games.

So, while you certainly are entitled to an opinion, the two you expressed above seem both erroneous and perhaps naive and the course of action you seek seems unnecessarily risky.

Save your BS eat crow post. Sorry Franny let you down by winning another NCAA tournament game

They won a big one today, it was a great win...something the team and program needed badly. I'm happy for these kids and for Hawkeye fans.

They also sucked for a month previous.

It's possible for both to be true...ya know.

Celebrate the win, rather than post something that's gonna come back to bite you in the ass in 48 hours.

I don’t think anyone is expecting a win against Tennessee.. the fire Fran crowd has been absolutely pathetic this year

There’s a complete difference between Lick ball and Fran ball and if you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.

Players sticking with the program should be your first clue.
