For those of you who have daughters, what do you think of this ruling?

I'm sorry, but deciding you were born in the wrong body should be an adult decision.

We don't let kids drink, smoke, vote, gamble or fight in wars because kids aren't mature enough to make such decisions.

But they can get surgery and hormones?

"Wait 'til you're 18 before transitioning" should be the rule.

I have two daughters and don't have a problem with it.

we are a country of prudes and it's one thing about America I am not proud of.
I don't have a problem with a high school kid believing they're transgender. If you feel that strongly about it at that age, I would suspect that is who you are. But, does that require others to shower with you? Isn't it reasonable to provide private shower stalls for everyone?

When I was a teenager I felt strongly that I should be a rockstar.

But then I grew up and reality set in.

I actually agree with conservatives on this issue. Most notably:
  • If you have a penis, you are legally male.
  • Changing genders is an adult decision, not a child's decision.
I'm not particularly troubled by the idea of a boy who really believes he is a girl using girl's facilities, because those facilities should be monitored for inappropriate behavior regardless. But as a matter of law, it is unfathomable to me that a school (or business) cannot require them to use separate facilities.

The most amazing part of this story, to me, is that he's allowed to participate on girl's teams. If there's any kind of slippery slope, I would think there is a real opportunity for a guy to get a college scholarship by claiming to "identify as female." I suspect the Title IX proponents might start singing a different tune if that starts to happen.

I have to agree with this. I'm no expert on adolescents, but dont a lot of teens experience some "confusion' as they go through puberty? Only to come out the other end of it 'normal"?

I think subjecting their bodies to surgery or other modifications during those years is unwise at best.

Yes, we should convert to private showers. Great idea.

Do you feel the same about sex?

Yes, as a society, we try to get kids to "wait until you're older" before having sex and that's generally viewed as a good idea.

To think you could have been a rockstar.

I didn't literally mean build a separate shower stall for every child, but rather to provide access to a private shower to anyone who wants one. There is possibly a financial cost - maybe not if one already exists - but it seems gender issues don't always exactly turn upon what makes the most financial sense.

I understood what you meant and I support it. It would be minimal cost to build showers with partitions. There is no reason to think that isn't an accommodation who's time has come. Group showers should be a thing of porno fantasy.

JFC, it's more than just shower stalls. Do people dress and undress in a shower stall? No. You'd need private changing areas, too.

For the entire history of human civilization, separate facilities for boys and girls were provided, and everyone agreed that it was a good thing and good enough.

Now the GBLTQs come along and want everything different.

There must be close to 50,000 locker rooms in this country that would have to be redesigned just because a few Johns decided to live as Janes.

JFC that's not hard either.
Well, it's actually impractical for many High School locker rooms I've seen. Over/Under lockers ect. With high school sports financially in trouble to begin with...we don't really need to be adding costs.

I think dividers in the showers is practical and inexpensive....but individual changing areas just isn't practical for most schools

Id have no problems showering with girls. I played sports all the way through college and was in locker rooms where I showered with guys. Showering with girls wouldn't make a difference to me.

I picture it like starship troopers.

These rulings are great marketing for private schools. No way any of my 4 daughters are showering with a teenage boy who "identifies as a girl". We would be out.

I don't think he should even be playing on the girl's athletic team. Seriously even if he has all the surgeries (Which I don't think a child should be having) you are still talking about a guy who up until puberty was probably male and probably has grown larger as a result.

Why should my daughter have to compete with someone who is 6' tall because they had testosterone for most of their life that helped them get that tall just because said person decided that he wasn't really a boy after all.

This. . . I wonder how much our state would give us in a voucher for a private school.

Very well put.

Also this has to be considered. Transgenders are not always gay, or prefer the same sex. Bruce Jenner states that he still loves women and is not attracted to men. So now we have a boy in a HS that says he feels like he should be a girl.....but still is attracted to girls. Yeah....no potential issues here.(sarcasm)
Give the kid his own shower and place to change. OR have him do so in the boys locker room alone, and have an administrator stand guard so he is not assaulted or taunted by boys who might try to sneak in to beat him up or worse.

Perhaps they could make a small area with some changing rooms. They could be optional and loved by some.

Love how the woman to the right on the CNN video completely dismisses the guy's comments. He brings up a valid point and she responds as if he's ignorant for presenting it.

I agree with this. You can have males who basically identify as lesbians. So it is mandated by federal law to have a post-pubescent boy in all of his glory showering with a bunch of girls who he might or might not find sexually attractive? The boy's right to self-identify trumps the right to privacy for all of the girls? That is crazy. And what about sports themselves? A D2 quality male soccer player gets to play on the a top D1 girl's soccer team because he feels like he's female? What does that do to scholarships with Title IX that have to be balanced?

That's the attitude you generally get from those who espouse these social attitudes. Anything that they don't agree with, it's immediately dismissed and treated as stupid....then they attempt to silence you.

She basically said the parents who are threatened by this need to be sent to re-education camps.

That's actually not true. Gender specific toilets are a modern invention.

So asking a male to not dress in the girls locker room is being a prude? Let him cut off his ding fink, then we can talk

I don't give a damn how you 'self identify'. If you have a twig and berries you're not showering with my daughters.

I'm sorry that you think nature got it wrong. Life is hard sometimes.
