Four-star DE John Waggoner is going to be a Hawkeye.

Four-star defensive end John Waggoner is staying home. After landing scholarship offers from all across the country this past year, the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Waggoner found the right fit in Iowa City with the Hawkeyes. Today, the state's top prospect made the call and officially gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff.

"Iowa just felt like home to me and I was ready to make that decision," Waggoner told HawkeyeReport.com.

During the recruiting process, Waggoner picked up offers from the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida, UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Indiana, Kansas State, and Iowa State in addition to Iowa.

As a senior, Waggoner finished with 27 tackles, 12.5 TFL, and 5.5 sacks as he helped West Des Moines Dowling win their 5th consecutive state championship in Class 4A.

Overall, Waggoner is commitment No. 15 for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2018.

HawkeyeReport.com will have more on Waggoner's decision here shortly.

So that whole "Hawks have moved on" story some were telling obviously couldn't have been true.

After watching his film, I feel like he could contribute as a wide-9 in obvious passing situations next year. Great get.

It's looking like we go what, about 10 deep at Dline if we needed to next year? Sure, will have some redshirts but lots of talent...wow..
Waggoner/Shannon/Linderbaum/Eppy/Lattimore/Hesse/Nelson & Nelson/Brincks/Jansen/Nixon/Gholson/McKnight.

just his commitment alone will move Iowa up 10 sports or so on the team rankings.

A position we have a hard time finding playing time for the guys we already have. Between Hesse; AN and the Nelsons. Now one more. The more great players the better but damn.

I am guessing the next two to commit will be Lockett and Stoops. Cradieth said he wants to wait until the second signing period. I think they have a good chance with Honas since they lose all starters and they have told him they he will have a shot at more than one LB spot.

This is such great news!:)

But, so confusing! Why would he come to play for KF, who is a well-known lazy guy that only cares about money? Why play for such a MEDIOCRE football program that goes to crappy bowl games and loses? Why go to a school that isn't sexy? And, how could he convinced to play for Iowa when they can't recruit?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I guess this kid isn't interested in being the best and playing for a Natty. Loser.
;)
