FOX News and Senator Lankford get remarkably candid: Trump sabotaged a solid bipartisan border deal because Trump didn't want it fixed.

Once republicans got to see what was actually in it, it wasn't going to be passed,.. Trump's comments didn't change anything.
There wasn’t a daily quota. The bill included language saying that the border is automatically shut down once we hit x number of immigrants crossing. That doesn’t mean that anything short of x is automatically let in.

The bill also made it harder for immigrants to claim asylum, which is the method most immigrants use to seek entry into the country.

The U.S. Border Patrol was in favor of the bill. The only reason it didn’t pass is because Republicans want to use the border for political capital in an election season.

Along with Dems? Absolutely. Only needed 9 from the senate, and a handful in the House really.

Name them. You know what...forget that.

You've supported my very argument with your answer. 220 Republicans in the house and you acknowledge you'd only need a handful of Rs. That's hardly bipartisan.

Trump didn't even use it effectively. He indicated they were eating our pets. So dumb how much he has that whole party hoodwinked.

I mean, anyone with a brain saw this happening back in the spring, knew what had gone down. Langford said the same thing back then didn’t he?
This. A border bill that didn't do anything to stop the flow of illegal migrants and only improved processing speeds wasn't going to be acceptable to the right, and it was only a matter of time before it was dumped. I'm sure Trump was happy to be the guy to tank it.

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris was in the trenches working with Republicans to strengthen border security. Pretty clear message: if you want an adult in charge, and one who can get things done on border security reform, elect Vice President Harris as the next POTUS. The only adult of the two. Play this for your MAGA peeps next time they whine about the border...

Yet, funny how nobody will admit that Biden sabotaged the whole nation's security for 3 and a half years, puts the blame on this one vote, then acts to solve the crisis immediately so they can be re-elected

Trump is happy to tank anything that helps anyone but himself. He is pure evil.

Sabotaged the whole nation's security, huh?

Fact is that the border has been a problem for decades, the severity of which depends upon which party is talking and who is running for election. But it just doesn't affect the majority of the nation very much.

Do you guys EVER look in the mirror and see the idiots every sane person sees? The bill was negotiated by one of the most conservative GOP senators who Trump had praised BY NAME for his immigration bona fides.

A couple of the worst elements were a daily acceptable quota for illegal border crossings, and the allowance of far too much executive discretion over actual enforcement...
The bill does not contain a limit for acceptable illegal border crossings. That idea is laughable.

It had quotas on the number of people who could be admitted legally under the amnesty program.

As a former registered Republican, I find it hard for anyone to say what you just said with a straight face. Just pure utter nonsense

And when you have zero qualification enforcement for amnesty applications,.. amnesty = illegal,.. All this bill would have provided, was increased applicant processing capacity.

What does bipartisan mean to you then? Cuz there’s not likely a bill out there that’d get 50% from both parties.

And I said they’d only need a handful to get the bill thru in the house. They’d need at least 9, or close to 20% of senate republicans.

Just objectively untrue lol.

The bill made it harder to claim amnesty. According to the American Immigration Council, the elevated standard for asylum would have led to approximately 33% fewer applicants being granted asylum in 2023.

The “quota” you were complaining about also would have completely shut down the border for large chunks of the last few years.

It's like he never read it.

Is increased processing a bad thing? It mandated detention for most. It mandated deportation after expedited hearings. I mean, what part of this is bad?

Processing requests faster should be an easy one to agree on, it’s a years long process currently and it really ought to be 6 months or less from start to finish.

And the law as written allows for many definitions that would be applicable for amnesty…depending on the administration.

No, actually it does not. Amnesty is only applicable to cases where a fear of personal persecution and/or physical harm can be demonstrated,.. Searching for a better financial existence doesn't qualify...

The administration does however have significant flexibility in how they choose to administer the law. My suggestions would be as follows:

1. Applications for amnesty will only be accepted at official ports of entry.
2. Applications for amnesty will be processed a rate dictated by our capacity to properly process claims.
3. Applicants will be detained at a US border facility while awaiting the processing of their claim.
4. Applicants will be guaranteed a decision on their claim within 7 days of filing.
5. Accepted applicants will be transferred to appropriate accommodations inside the US.
6. Rejected applicants will be deported.

That was a terrible bill that did nothing to address all the illegals getting in. Lankford is just butt hurt because he didn’t get his crappy ass bill through.

2-6 conflict with each other. The resources to handle them how you’re suggesting aren’t there.

The bill trump killed tried to address this; the GOP version ignored it.

Another dude with his talking points. You would agree with everything Lankford has ever done in Congress…until your cult leader blocked “the best border bill we will ever get”. You just can’t say that Trump was wrong.

That's because you don't understand...

We should be processing applicants at a rate that we dictate, not the rate that they want to show up,.. The Lankford bill attempted to increase our processing capacity, which simply pushes the problem onto other areas of our society which isn't able to accommodate the excessive flow...

This is our country, we get to call the shots....
