He looked ridiculous but he has calmed down over the years. That's what you are gonna get once in a while with Fran. His first 5 years were way worse as far as frequency and it use to be directed at the team as well. Haven't seen that in a while.

Maybe you don't watch the games but Iowa physical play was a foul. Not so much on Wisky. Fran was upset and as it went longer he got really pissed so I'm pretty certain the zebra had something to say to Fran.
You asked me if I was special needs yet I'm the douche? Ok weird take. My response is we needed to play and coach better and come away with a win. Obviously you aren't going to win every game but if your response or belief is anything other than we need to play and coach better than you are only making excuses.
Evidently there's more of them then you think. Look around, some teams in the top 25 have more then 1 starting, but continue to think that it's absurd that Iowa could recruit a 7 footer that plays defense and rebounds instead of sitting on the bench and excelling as a cheerleader.
Purdue seems to find 7 footers on a yearly basis that can often provide useful playing time right away as freshman and you can look at almost every Big Ten team has a center taller then Filip. He has his hands full almost every game playing out of position, that's on Fran.

Iowa just seems to be undersized physically at almost all positions. If we had a real big man five, then you could play Rebraca at the four (he’s been playing well just asked to guard real big guys), Kris and PMac on the wings and then Tony running the point. But it really hurt us tonight not having an aircraft carrier in the post.

I'm guessing you'll be surprised and amazed how many players out there that over shadow Filip Rebraca at 6-8. Rebraca does what he can but is not skilled or tall enough to help Iowa challenge the top teams in the Big Ten. That's on Fran.

Good point. Crowl from WI was not great but did enough to impact the game. How can Muley be so bad that he can't get off the bench and contribute something? Rebraca has played his ass off but teams will start packing it on him and letting Iowa shoot 23% from 3.

We outrebounded Wisconsin by 9 last night. Rebraca had more rebounds than anyone on Wisconsin last night, 8. And that’s without Murray who is our leading rebounder.
This Was glaringly obvious in the Duke game.
I don’t understand the controversy here at all. Rebracha is obviously playing out of position. He has struggled and will continue to struggle with bigger 5s…and literally every team in the league has bigger bigs. O is not giving us the kinds of useful minutes that it is going to take to compete with teams like IU, Purdue, Illinois…Michigan will also be a bad matchup for us.

I've never understood this train of thought,... It's about the number of fouls committed, not the number of attempted foul shots allowed by the officials.
And that's my point,.. Wisconsin will always commit more fouls, because of the type of game they're coached to play...
Looking at it from a different angle wouldn't a team like Wisconsin (or Iowa for a number of years) have more opportunities to get fouled when working the ball into the post like we did with Luka?
If we are that concerned about other teams being more physical ( I guess I am assuming that is what you are getting at) why doesn't Fran respond by playing the same way?

This is where I’m at. Lickliter’esque apathy has completely set in with me. Same story, different year. I didn’t even watch the game last night….in years past the ISU game would have been enough to get me to buy in, but as the great George W Bush once said, “fool me once…shame on you, fool me…I can’t get fooled again.”
You call it physical,.. I call it slapping, grabbing, tugging, poking, undercutting and tripping. It's like having a street fight with a gang of women,.. Very few programs want to play the game that way.
But if officials are going to allow it, why would we not adjust to how the game is being called? We say the same things about MSU. Do they play defense similarly?

Bingo, it’s not a secret that the best teams in March are also usually the most physical. Rough, tough defense and rebounding will always be there and carry the day while the other team is whining that the ball was too orange and slick and caused them to miss their shots….
Yes, I would say that MSU plays a similar type of game depending on the roster they have...
If we know the game is going to be officiated that way during conference play, and even more allowed during tournament play then why not adapt?
If the game is called tighter, adapt to that too.
Typically we know which set of officials are going to call a tight game, and who is going to let teams be more physical. Can't we just coach our teams to adjust to what we know will happen?
I don't understand why this is so complicated for people. Compare it to college football for example and with penalties called - some teams are just less disciplined or coached to play more physical and push the "foul envelope" more. ISU is one of those teams. Foul the shit out of the other team - they wont call everything!
So do you think Fran and the coaches don't discuss physicality? Because I'm sure every coach does. We do have a few tough guys. Rebraca is tough, Connor is tough. Perkins is very tough. Garza was incredibly tough. But clearly we favor a more wide open fluid type of game. It's tough playing Wisconsin twice a year as nobody really plays like them. Again, we were missing 2 starters on an already pretty weak bench. I thought we were pretty physical. We out rebounded them by 9. We couldn't afford to get Rebraca in foul trouble. Or really anyone last night. We are getting zero from our bench. And yes, I know Kingsbury made a shot. He's not a rotation guy moving forward. We're 9 deep on a good night. Last night we were basically 7 deep. Hard to play overly physical and not get tired in a 45 minute game when some of our guys are playing 8-10 minutes more than they usually play, especially in a game like that.
Exactly,... If you go into a game with the presumption that most refs, in an effort to make themselves look fair, are going to try even up the called fouls, then it becomes reasonable for a team to intentionally play a more foul oriented game... Quality refs squash this stuff while weak refs enable it.
